Yahaya Bello receives Tinubu at his Abuja residence

The national leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu on Monday, Tuesday, April 30 hosted Kogi state governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello at his Abuja residence.

The visit comes amidst rumours of a rift between the governor and the respected party chieftain.

In the last few weeks, the media have been awash with reports of plan by a cabal in the party led by Tinubu to deny Governor Bello the party's ticket in the forthcoming governorship election in Kogi state scheduled for November.

Bello, 43, is said to be at loggerheads with some senior party officials at the national level, but his media aides have denied the insinuations.

Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos state, is a trusted confidante of the APC national chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.

His influence on the party and the party's national chairman is said to be very key in getting things done in the party.

It is not clear what the discussions at the meeting was centered on but a source at the meeting told Legit.ng, “it was just a familiarity visit.”

“The governor had met with Tinubu at the governor's forum and the national leader asked him to come and see him.

“The governor being a loyal party man visited Tinubu out of respect and admiration. The national leader at the meeting urged the governor to work with other APC leaders in the state and carry everyone along ahead of the elections,” the source said.

Meanwhile, the director-general of media and publicity to the governor, Kingsley Fanwo, has stated that Bello's declaration for second term has made his political opponents jittery.

Fanwo said Governor Bello's declaration has unsettled his opponents, “many of whom had thought the party would fail and then die after the 2019 general elections in Kogi state.”

Buhari’s Legacy Of Recessions By Fredrick Nwabufo

Fredrick Nwabufo ‘Why always Buhari?’ As it was in 1984 under General Buhari, so it is in 2016 and 2020 under President Buhari? Is it by the unfortunate hands of kismet that recession hits Nigeria every time Buhari takes charge of the country’s affairs? If the recession of the 80s under Buhari was a conspiracy by economic and political factors, to what do we attribute that of his first coming as a civilian President — and now in his second coming? Why does pestilence scourge the land, hunger ravage the population and lives lost malevolently when Buhari presides over the country? Why always Buhari? Buhari’s undoing is his wonted predilection for hierarchising ethnicity, religion and loyalty above competence. Since 1999, no President has obtrusively shown a more nepotistic aspect than Buhari. It is unarguable that the President arrays the most competence-challenged cabinet ever in the chronicle of governance in Nigeria. Yes, a recession cabinet. Fredrick Nwabufo Here is a cabin...
