Wike replies Amaechi, says the minister is not owner of Rivers state

- Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike, has replied Rotimi Amaechi over his comments on the state election

- Amaechi had said that his grouse with Wike was his decision to run for second term

- But Wike in his response noted that Amaechi is not the owner of Rivers state

Nyesom Wike, the Rivers state governor, has said that the minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, is not in the position to decide who runs for governor of the state.

Channels reports that the governor, who spoke to journalists on Tuesday, May 7, at the government House, was in response to an earlier comment made by Amaechi.

Legit.ng gathered that Amaechi had said on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Tuesday, May 7, that there is no war between him and Wike, and the issue between both of them was due to Wike’s decision to run a second term.

Wike said that he wouldn’t have responded, but he owes the public the duty to set the record straight.

“We want everybody to come back and work together for Rivers state to move forward. But it is unfortunate that if the former governor of the state made the statement, he is not in my party.

''It is my party that gave me a ticket to go for a second term which I deserve, having done well in my first tenure.”

The governor recalled an earlier statement allegedly attributed to Amaechi, adding that, ''If I did not do well in my first tenure, my party, PDP, will not allow me to fly the flag of the party. Remember that in 2015, the same man vowed that over his dead body will I be governor of Rivers state, it’s on tape, and everybody knows that.

“It is not in his place to say that I should not go for a second tenure; it is for the people of Rivers state, it doesn’t matter what his opinion is because he is not the owner of Rivers state, he is not the people of the state, he is one person in the state.”

The governor noted that the state has a population of not less than six million people and not less than 3.5 million registered voters, saying that it will be irreconcilable for one man to say his anger is because ''I want to go for a second tenure. It is the people of the state that will decide.”

Meanwhile, Amaechi had declared that there is ‘no war’ going on between him and incumbent Governor, Nyesom Wike.

Amaechi, who is a serving minister of transportation, made the clarification during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily.

He explained that what is going on between both politicians are borne out of Wike’s decision to run a second term as governor of the state.

“There is no war going on between Governor Wike and I. What is going on between us is the fact that he wants to run a second term'', he said.

The minister added that the governor is responsible for the lives in the state and his inability to do so raises concerns.

“He is the governor of Rivers state, he has to protect lives. The moment you can’t protect lives, you must take those responsibilities.

“When I was governor of the state, for every death, I challenged the Director of SSS; I must know who killed the people and they must be arrested'', he said.
