We'll continue to support Nigeria in fight against Boko Haram, other insecurities - UK

- The United Kingdom has once again announced its support for Nigeria's fight against insurgency

- The United Kingdom Foreign Secretary, Jeremy Hunt, said the country is strongly behind Nigeria

- Hunt said the UK will continue to support Nigeria in the fight to give people secure, prosperous and happy lives

The United Kingdom has assured Nigeria of its continuous support in the fight against Boko Haram, banditry, kidnapping and other insecurities in the country.

The United Kingdom Foreign Secretary, Jeremy Hunt, made this statement at the World Food Programme (WFP), warehouse in Maiduguri, Borno state.

Vanguard reports that Hunt said the UK government has repeatedly called for the release of all those abducted by Boko Haram and Islamic State in West Africa.

He said: “People are being forced from their homes by the evils of extremism and terrorism. Boko Haram and Islamic State are the antithesis of the values we all hold dear, and we will continue to support Nigeria in the fight to give people secure, prosperous and happy lives.”

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen Tukur Buratai, has cried about about the influx of bandits into states like Kaduna, Kano and Niger after fleeing Zamfara, Katsina.

Buratai, who spoke at a press conference at the Army Headquarters, Abuja, on the 'Reorganisation of Exercise Harbin Kunama III', claimed that the bandits are fleeing from Zamfara into this other states.

The Army chief said the bandits are fleeing because of the successes recorded by the army in combating the criminals in states like Zamfara and Katsina.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that the camp of the Boko Haram has been hit by hunger with the members of the insurgent group now struggling to survive, the Nigerian Army said on Thursday, May 2.

The Army said this in a statement issued by Colonel Ado Isa, the Deputy Director of Public Relations, Theatre Command of the Operation Lafia Dole.

The statement obtained by Legit.ng said the strategy adopted by the troops of Operation Lafiya Dole in conducting what it called robust and aggressive fighting patrols in the north east had yielded good results.
