Rumours of recruitment in Bauchi pushed by loyalists of governor-elect - Governor Abubakar

- The Bauchi state government has responded to claims of massive recruitment of applicants into its civil service

- The governor of Bauchi, Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, on Wednesday, May 22, said that such rumours were promoted by some persons close to the governor-elect, Senator Bala Mohammed

- Abubakar said that was actually happened was an internal transfer of staff members within the existing labour force

The governor of Bauchi, Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, has refuted claims of ongoing recruitment of new workers into the state civil service.

Governor Abubakar made the clarification in a statement by his media aide, Ali M. Ali, on Wednesday, May 22, adding that it was necessary to set things straight as allegations in that regard were increasing by some people close to the governor-elect, Senator Bala Mohammed, Daily Trust reports.

The statement party read: “Following several inquiries by the press, the attention of the Bauchi State Government has been drawn to what it considers unfounded concerns of key spokesmen of gov-elect, Senator Bala Mohammed.

“Towards the tail end of last week, these spokesmen went to town with the story that the outgoing government of MA Abubakar is deliberately, bloating the state labour force by recruiting more personnel at the eleventh hour.

“They inferred that the government of the day is deliberately doing that as a trap for the incoming government.”

Abubakar said that what actually happened was an internal transfer of personnel within the existing labour force to meet the accreditation requirements of some tertiary institutions in Bauchi.

The statement reveal that some of such institutions include College of Legal Studies, Misau, College of Education, Azare, College of Education, Kangere, Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic, Bauchi and College of Agriculture, Bauchi.

However, the statement said that the appointment of casual workers in the treasury division and Bauchi state Orphans and Vulnerable Children Agency (BASOVCA) was regularized, adding that due process was followed in both cases.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that after he defeated Abubakar, the governor-elect of Bauchi, Mohammed, released his very first address to the people of the state in the form of an acceptance speech.

Mohammed, who won the governorship election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said he was humbled realising that the people see him fit to lead the state out of its current challenges.
