President Buhari presides over longest council meeting

President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday, May 8 presided over the longest meeting of the Federal Executive Council in the history of his administration.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the meeting, which started at about 11:00am at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, was still in session as at 9:30pm.

The meeting was scheduled to deliberate on fewer than 25 memos from Federal Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

The meeting went for break twice to enable the cabinet members attend to some spiritual obligations and other needs.

Buhari had, before the commencement of the council meeting, inaugurated the governing board of the North East Development Commission.

Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the All Progressives Congress-led federal government of incompetence in handling the nation’s security challenges.

PDP’s spokesperson, Mr. Kassim Afegbua, who was a guest on Channels Television on Sunday, May 5, said the president lacks the capacity to lead Nigeria out of its security crisis.

Afegbua also accused the federal government of not addressing insecurity, claiming that it will be surprising if tomorrow’s headline does not capture any report of killing.
