OPC kicks against FG's proposed establishment of Fulani radio

- The federal government recently announced that it has acquired a radio licence to broadcast to Fulani

- The government says will help in reaching out to the herders with the message of peace, unity, tolerance and education

- The Oodua Peoples Congress has described the move as questionable and not acceptable

Foremost Yoruba nationalist organization, Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) on Thursday, May 23, kicked against the establishment of a Fulani radio station by the federal government.

The group described the motive behind such establishment for a section of the country as questionable and not acceptable.

In a press statement issued by its publicity secretary, Barrister Yinka Oguntimehin, and sent to journalists the group flayed the federal government’s decision, saying it was not in any way sincere about it.

“We need to be wary of the actions coming from the federal government these days, especially, on the issuance of a licence to the Fulani for the establishment of a Fulani radio station,” OPC said.

The group, however, said it was not totally opposed to the move, but demanded that the federal government must give other tribes and regions the same opportunity to have their own radios.

“We are not against the move, however, it must be stated also that the federal government must give other tribes and regions the same opportunity.

“The Yoruba must have their radio stations, as well as other tribes. Nigeria is a secular state with different religions and tribes, so whatever the government is doing should reflect the secularity of the Nigerian nation,” the group stated.

“The south- west has all that is required to establish a Yoruba radio station. In fact, many of the thriving media organizations, including, print and electronics are located in the south-west, so we are good to go,” the group added.

Meanwhile, the Ethnic Nationalities Defence Organisation (ENDO) has cautioned all minority ethnic nationalities in the country to immediately set up self-defence militia to defend their lands and territories against Boko Haram terrorists and killer herdsmen.

The group made the recommendation via a statement sent to journalists and signed by its president, David Maiyami, director information and strategy, Freedom Musa and director of operations, Nehemiah Maihaikali.

It charged all ethnic nationalities to form their militia groups or be ready to lose their ancestral lands after being exterminated by either the compromised security forces or Fulani militia and terrorists.

Buhari’s Legacy Of Recessions By Fredrick Nwabufo

Fredrick Nwabufo ‘Why always Buhari?’ As it was in 1984 under General Buhari, so it is in 2016 and 2020 under President Buhari? Is it by the unfortunate hands of kismet that recession hits Nigeria every time Buhari takes charge of the country’s affairs? If the recession of the 80s under Buhari was a conspiracy by economic and political factors, to what do we attribute that of his first coming as a civilian President — and now in his second coming? Why does pestilence scourge the land, hunger ravage the population and lives lost malevolently when Buhari presides over the country? Why always Buhari? Buhari’s undoing is his wonted predilection for hierarchising ethnicity, religion and loyalty above competence. Since 1999, no President has obtrusively shown a more nepotistic aspect than Buhari. It is unarguable that the President arrays the most competence-challenged cabinet ever in the chronicle of governance in Nigeria. Yes, a recession cabinet. Fredrick Nwabufo Here is a cabin...
