The Ohanaeze Ndigbo has asked Nigerians not to believe the story that it is making efforts to restore Governor Rochas Okorocha’s certificate of return as a senator-elect from Imo state.

The certificate was denied him by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) following controversies and allegations that arose from the 2019 general elections in the governor’s state.

Vanguard reports that the apex Igbo socio-culutral organisation made its position known in Enugu on Thursday, May 9.

In a statement by Chief Emeka Attama, the media adviser to organisation’s president-general, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo said its interest is in the protection of the collective interests of Igbos.

The statement added that the organisation would not descend to bargaining for personal issues such as in Okorocha’s certificate of return.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo emphatically dissociates itself from the said story, which did not emanate from the body.

“While Ohanaeze Ndigbo will always speak out on matters concerning Ndigbo generally, it will not allow itself to be dragged into partisan politics concerning individuals,” the statement said.

It added that the Ohanaeze Ndigbo frowns seriously at the tendency of some of its officials or mischievous elements using the name of the body to issue unwarranted statements purporting them to emerge from the apex Igbo cultural organisation.

It further said investigations were on concerning a statement issued by the Lagos chapter of the organisation involving the issue.

“Ohanaeze is at the moment looking into a statement credited to its Lagos state chapter president and will not hesitate to discipline any state president or official who issues any statement without authorisation,” Attama stated.

Legit.ng earlier reported how a Federal High Court, Abuja fixed a date to rule on an application by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) seeking to be joined as parties in a suit filed by Imo governor, Rochas Okorocha, over his certificate of return.

Justice Okon Abang fixed the date on Wednesday, May 8, following arguments from counsel on why the party should or should not be joined as an interested party in the suit.

Okorocha also recently said that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) had made him suffer ten times more than what he would have experienced if he were in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Buhari’s Legacy Of Recessions By Fredrick Nwabufo

Fredrick Nwabufo ‘Why always Buhari?’ As it was in 1984 under General Buhari, so it is in 2016 and 2020 under President Buhari? Is it by the unfortunate hands of kismet that recession hits Nigeria every time Buhari takes charge of the country’s affairs? If the recession of the 80s under Buhari was a conspiracy by economic and political factors, to what do we attribute that of his first coming as a civilian President — and now in his second coming? Why does pestilence scourge the land, hunger ravage the population and lives lost malevolently when Buhari presides over the country? Why always Buhari? Buhari’s undoing is his wonted predilection for hierarchising ethnicity, religion and loyalty above competence. Since 1999, no President has obtrusively shown a more nepotistic aspect than Buhari. It is unarguable that the President arrays the most competence-challenged cabinet ever in the chronicle of governance in Nigeria. Yes, a recession cabinet. Fredrick Nwabufo Here is a cabin...
