Hold APC responsible if anything happens to Senator Adeleke - PDP

- PDP says there is a fresh plot to arrest and detain Senator Ademola Adeleke, its candidate in the 2018 Osun governorship election

- The party accused the APC of colluding with some people in the police force to deny Adeleke of his freedom

- PDP spokesman Ologbondiyan says the party is concerned by the increasing threats to Adeleke's life as he tries to get back his mandate

The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has claimed that there is a plot by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to arrest its candidate in the 2018 Osun governorship election Senator Ademola Adeleke.

In a statement signed by the party's spokesman Kola Ologbondiyan late on Sunday, May 5, the party claimed that the APC wants to use security forces to detain the senator.

The PDP said it has learned of a fresh plot by the APC "to use some elements in the Police to hound and incarcerate our victorious Osun state governorship candidate, Senator Ademola Adeleke, all in the bid to browbeat him to relinquish his mandate."

The PDP says there are increasing number of threats daily to Senator Adeleke's life from those who allegedly do not want him to take over as Osun state government as ruled by the Osun State Governorship Election Tribunal.

"Nigerians will recall that the PDP had earlier alerted of threats to Senator Adeleke’s life. These threats have not only continued unabated but have heightened with this renewed hounding by these elements in the police, who are being used by the APC.

"Our party cautions that Nigerians are not ready to accept any excuse from anybody should Senator Adeleke suddenly becomes a victim of accidental discharge, sudden disappearance or failed health. They know whom to hold responsible."

PDP urged APC to stop alleged attempts on Senator Adeleke's life. It also pleaded with the Police IG Mohammed Adamu to ensure that the police protect the senator as he tries to get back his mandate from incumbent Governor Gboyega Oyetola.

Recall that Legit.ng reported that PDP raised a similar alarm over alleged plots "to discredit and smear Osun State Governor-Elect, Senator Ademola Adeleke".

In the statement, Ologbondiyan accused the leaders of the APC of "weaving a new set of fabrications and allegations".

The PDP claimed that after the ruling party failed to brand Senator Adeleke’s school certificate as fake, the party's leaders are "now knitting a very ludicrous allegation that the School Testimonial of the Osun Governor-Elect was forged, with a view to smearing his image in the eyes of the unsuspecting public".
