Barcelona midfielder loses valuables, cash at home during UCL semi-final win over Liverpool

Arthur Melo, Barcelona midfielder, suffered losses on Wednesday night, May 1 after two armed housebreakers broke into his house and threatened his brother with a machete, while he was away at Camp Nou.

According to UK Sun report, the incident took place during Barca’s 3-0 Champions League semi-final victory over the Reds, with the Brazilian midfielder on the bench.

The buglers were said to have carted away cash and other valuables which include jewellery and a Rolex watch.

Confirming the incident, a spokesperson for the regional Mossos d’Esquadra police force disclosed they are currently investigating a housebreak in the upmarket Barcelona neighbourhood of Pedralbes.

“We would not say who lives at the property. All I can confirm is that we are investigating a break-in and robbery at an address in Pedralbes,” the spokesman added.

Local reports claim Arthur’s unarmed brother returned home after the match at about 11pm and found two masked men in the house.

They had a weapon - thought to be a machete -by his throat and demanded he open a safe stocked with valuables.

There were no further reports of any injuries to any occupant of the house.

At the last count, top football stars in Spain are major target by criminals, who force their way into their homes once they are for footballing duty.

In February, Kevin Prince Boateng lost about £250,000 of valuables and cash after buglers broke into his rented home in the upmarket Barcelona neighbourhood of Sarria, while the Ghanaian international was playing against Valladolid.

On the other hand, the likes of Sadio Mane, Steven Gerrard, Pepe Reina and Peter Crouch also suffered similar fates while playing in Europe for Liverpool, with their burgled during midweek matches.

Although the 22-year-old Arthur did not feature during the first-leg clash at the Nou Camp, the Brazilian was an unused sub as Barca claimed a resounding 3-0 win over the Reds.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Barcelona ace Lionel Messi inspired his side to a 3-0 win during a Champions League semi final clash against Liverpool on Wednesday night, May 1.

The encounter at Camp Nou saw Messi net a sensational 83rd free-kick that dampened Liverpool's hopes of booking a place in the finals.

Messi's stunning brace against the Reds increased his tally to 26 goals against English teams, scoring against every Premier League club he has faced in the Champions League.

Buhari’s Legacy Of Recessions By Fredrick Nwabufo

Fredrick Nwabufo ‘Why always Buhari?’ As it was in 1984 under General Buhari, so it is in 2016 and 2020 under President Buhari? Is it by the unfortunate hands of kismet that recession hits Nigeria every time Buhari takes charge of the country’s affairs? If the recession of the 80s under Buhari was a conspiracy by economic and political factors, to what do we attribute that of his first coming as a civilian President — and now in his second coming? Why does pestilence scourge the land, hunger ravage the population and lives lost malevolently when Buhari presides over the country? Why always Buhari? Buhari’s undoing is his wonted predilection for hierarchising ethnicity, religion and loyalty above competence. Since 1999, no President has obtrusively shown a more nepotistic aspect than Buhari. It is unarguable that the President arrays the most competence-challenged cabinet ever in the chronicle of governance in Nigeria. Yes, a recession cabinet. Fredrick Nwabufo Here is a cabin...
