Anthony Joshua challenger Deontay Wilder knocks opponent out in 1st round

Deontay Wilder, American heavyweight fighter, retained his WBC title once again following his victory over Dominic Breazeale at the 9,000-capacity Barclays Center on Sunday, May 19.

The 'Bronze Bomber' knocked challenger Breazeale out in the first round with a thunderous punch and win his ninth WBC title defence.

Wilder returned to winning ways five months after his bout with British boxer Tyson Fury ended in a draw after both shared the spoils (115–111, 112–114, 113–113) in December.

The California born fighter was floored in the second minute of his fight to make it his second defeat in his professional career after 22 fights.

Breazeale, before the match was rated as one of the best in the game having won 20 of his fights - 18 via knockouts, but was never a match for the current WBC title holder.

Wilder on the other hand recorded his 40th knockout victory out of 41 wins in his career, while Fury's draw remains the only dent since he started professional boxing.

He said his incontestable victory that: "Everything just came out of me tonight. I know it’s been a big build up.

"There’s been a lot of animosity and a lot of words that were said and it just came out of me tonight. That’s what makes boxing so great.

"I just told Breazeale I love him and of course I want to see him go home to his family. I know we say some things, but when you can fight a man and then you can hug him and kiss him, I wish the world was like that. We shake hands and we live to see another day and that’s what it’s all about.

"I understand what Tyson Fury did. When you get dropped on the canvas like that I understand you have to get yourself back together.

"But the rematch will happen, like all these other fights will happen. The great thing is all these fights are in discussion. The big fights will happen. I just want you to have patience.

Wilder insisted that he was not done with Fury, adding that their rematch will happen but did not give time frame as to when the fight will go down.

"You know what the saying is Jim, good things come to those who wait.

Wilder got Breazeale to back off when they started the fight in a bid to find his balance and then launched the rocket punch on the fellow American to remain undefeated after 42 fights.

Meanwhile, the Bronze Bomber faces punishment from WBC after crassly saying in the build-up: “Breazeale’s life is on the line for this fight and I do mean his life.

He said: "I am still trying to get me a body on my record. This is the only sport where you can kill a man and get paid for it at the same time. It’s legal."

Legit.ng earlier reported that Deontay Wilder has admitted snubbing various offers from Anthony Joshua and declared he deserve $100m to table his WBC title for a unification ‘fight’.

Metro reports that the Bronze Bomber was offered that same amount by streaming giants DAZN for a three-fight deal that includes Joshua two times alongside Dominic Breazeale.

However, the American prefers his bout to be aired on Showtime, even as co-promoter Shelly Finkel, believes one unification fight against Anthony Joshua is valued at $100m alone.

NLNG Signs Letter Of Intent On Delayed Gas Expansion Project

The Nigerian Natural Liquefied Gas LTD has signed a letter of intent for the engineering, procurement and construction of its long held up Train Seven project. In a statement released by the company on Wednesday, it said that the $10bn project will be executed by a consortium of Italian firm Saipem, Japan’s Chiyoda and South Korea’s Daewoo. The statement reads, “The project will form part of the investment of over $10bn including the upstream scope of the LNG value chain, thereby boosting the much needed Foreign Direct Investment profile of Nigeria.” Managing Director of NLNG, Tony Atta, said in 2018 that the Final Investment Decision would be made in the fourth quarter of that year.
