Alleged coup plotting: DSS issues strong warning ahead of presidential inauguration

- The DSS has issued a strong warning to those it said are trying to force a change in government

- In a statement issued on Friday, the security operatives said it will not tolerate those instigating violence

- DSS said those calling for change in regime will be dealt with reversely and brought to book

Few days after the Nigerian Army distanced itself from an alleged coup plotting against President Muhammadu Buhari, the Department of State Services (DSS) has issued a strong warning to those it described as "coup plotters" ahead of presidential inauguration.

The DSS gave this warning in a statement on Friday, May 17, as a reaction to call for change in government championed under the banner of the Nigeria Continuity and Progress (NCP), Sahara Reporters reports.

The security agency said it has gathered information that some misguided group are cahoot with some aggrieved politicians to cause violence in order to "actualize their infamous agenda of forceful change of regime.''

It, however, said people fanning infamous agenda with the target of truncating the country's peace,would be severely dealt with and brought to book.

Part of the statement read: “It is evident that the misguided group and its cohorts have also planned to instigate widespread violence against the government in order to actualize their infamous agenda of forceful change of regime.

“The DSS not only supports the consolidation of democracy in Nigeria, but will leave no stone unturned in rooting out persons or groups desirous of truncating the process or undermining the country’s peace and corporate existence.

“The service will, therefore, not condone any form of extra-judicial activities or methods designed or adopted by persons or groups to subvert constituted authorities.

“Instructively, defaulting persons will surely be brought to book."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, had raised serious allegation against Muhammadu Buhari accusing the president of plotting to put him in jail.

Atiku was reacting to a statement by the minister of information, Lai Mohammed, who claimed the former vice president had been making treasonable statements.

NLNG Signs Letter Of Intent On Delayed Gas Expansion Project

The Nigerian Natural Liquefied Gas LTD has signed a letter of intent for the engineering, procurement and construction of its long held up Train Seven project. In a statement released by the company on Wednesday, it said that the $10bn project will be executed by a consortium of Italian firm Saipem, Japan’s Chiyoda and South Korea’s Daewoo. The statement reads, “The project will form part of the investment of over $10bn including the upstream scope of the LNG value chain, thereby boosting the much needed Foreign Direct Investment profile of Nigeria.” Managing Director of NLNG, Tony Atta, said in 2018 that the Final Investment Decision would be made in the fourth quarter of that year.
