Why Buhari will never ask Ndume to drop bid for Senate presidency - Source

- An unnamed source close to Senator Ali Ndume says President Muhammdu Buhari is not pressuring senators aspiring for the office of Senate president to step down for Senator Ahmad Lawan

- The associate of Ndume notes that the presidency has made it clear that Buhari will never interfere in the emergence of the leadership of the National Assembly

President Muhammadu Buhari did not at any time hold a meeting where he reportedly prevailed on Senator Ali Ndume and other senators aspiring for the office of Senate president to step down for Ahmad Lawan, an unmanned source has said.

The Sun reports that the source who is close to Ndume, said the presidency had made it clear that Buhari will not interfere in the emergence of the leadership of the National Assembly.

“There was no such meeting and from what I know of President Buhari there is not going to be any such meeting," the source said.

“The president, historically, has never interfered in an electoral process at any time and, at any level, right from his time in the Congress of Progressive Change (CPC).

“In fact, he never interfered in his own election. As he has said before, he belongs to everybody and he belongs to no particular person."

The associate of Ndume said the report claiming that the president called contestants and asked them to drop their ambition for Ahmad Lawan was untrue.

He said Buhari’s spokesman, Mallam Garba Shehu, had earlier issued a statement, long ago, that the president would not interfere in the emergence of the leadership of the National Assembly, adding that the president’s aide on National Assembly, Senator Ita Enang made a similar statement.

Meanwhile, the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Adams Oshiomhole and the national leader of the party, Bola Tinubu, have been accused of trying to sink the party with their coercive manner of determining who becomes leader in the ninth National Assembly.

The APC chieftains were accused by the Abuja chapter of the party, northeast zonal youth wing, Independent reports.

Legit.ng gathers that the accusation was contained in a statement read by the youths’ secretary, Abubakar Maigari, at a press conference in Abuja.
