‘'Yeah we spoke after. I didn’t realize at the time actually that I had caught him like that.

'‘But after the game we had a brief chat, shook hands and he said he knew it was an accident.

''Suarez after as well, we had a good tussle and he just shook my hand after and said good luck and we just said good luck.

‘'So it’s nice when you can have that battle on the pitch and then obviously there’s full respect after the game because ultimately you’re just trying to do your best and enjoy the game,'' Smalling told BBC Radio 5 live.

Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how Manchester United on Wednesday night, April 10, faced Spanish champions Barcelona in the first leg of their Champions League quarterfinal encounter which ended 1-0 in favor of the Catalans.

But even before the match was played at Old Trafford, there were talks and debates among football fans and pundits on Lionel Messi and Manchester United defender Chris Smalling.

Many were of the thoughts that it would be difficult for Chris Smalling to handle Lionel Messi in the encounter, while some stated that the Englishman would do so.
