Some residents in Abuja, the Nigeria's seat of power, have alleged that many landlords in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) don't lend their houses to Nigerians.
Legit.ng reports that an Abuja resident, Gimba Kakanda, @gimbakakanda, said his friend a thick American accent once called a landlady and asked to rent her place, adding that when she got there, the landlady said she thought his friend was as white because she sounded like a white person.

He said: ''Some Abuja landlords don’t accept black people as tenants. A friend with a thick American accent once called a landlady and asked to rent her place. They agreed on a meeting. When she got there, the landlady said, “I thought you’re white... you sounded like a white person.”
Another resident simply identified as Asewereniseoluwa, in his tweet, also noted that some Abuja landlords don't rent houses to single women.
Toyin Sulyman-Hassan in her tweet said she met a number of landlords when he was looking for a house before marriage, adding that she knew a landlady that wouldn’t rent her house to a single mum of 3 just because she’s not with her husband.
She tweeted: ''A lot of them sef. I met a number of them when I was looking for a house before marriage and I know a landlady (grandma) that wouldn’t rent her house to a single mom of 3 just cos she’s not with her husband.
Asewereniseoluwa, however, said the only thing the landlords were worried about is being single and not being from a particular tribe.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that in the wake of the devastating building collapse which happened at Ifafaji, Lagos Island, a Nigerian lady narrated how an apartment she had rented in Ajao estate ceiling had collapsed just four months into the period she lived in it.
