Police IGP Adamu gives fresh order over killing of 11 people in Gombe on Easter day

- Mohammed Adamu orders for immediate investigation into the killing of 11 people on Gombe state

- Adamu, through Frank Mba, quotes a witness as saying that the NSCDC officer who drove a car, lost control of the vehicle

- Mba says the commissioner of police in the state visited the scene of the accident for an on-the-spot assessment

Mohammed Adamu, Nigeria's acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP), on Monday, April 22, ordered for a speedy and comprehensive investigation into the Easter day accident in Gombe state in which 11 people died.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) the casualties included the driver of the vehicle, a personnel of the NSCDC, who rammed into a procession celebrating Easter on April 21, along Gombe-Biu road.

Frank Mba, a deputy commissioner of police and spokesperson of the law enforcement agency, said in a statement in Abuja, that 30 other persons seriously injured were currently receiving treatment.

Mba added that an eye witness disclosed that the driver lost control before ramming into the crowd.

According to the force spokesperson, the commissioner of police in the state had visited the scene of the accident for an on-the-spot assessment as well as the hospital to monitor the treatment of the victims.

He added that while condoling the families and friends of the dead, the I-G advised motorists to exercise utmost caution by obeying all traffic signs and regulations.

Legit.ng earlier reported how an Easter parade by a group of Christian youths in Gombe state turned bloody on Sunday, April 21 night when a security personnel with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) ran his vehicle into the procession.

While at least eight of the youths were killed immediately, the casualty level increased to about 11 later.

However, the situation got worse when survivors among the youth took laws into their hands.

The angry youths reportedly chased down the NSCDC official and his police officer passenger and proceeded to beat them to death at Alheri junction, Biu Road in Gombe.

The Chairman of the Gombe state Battalion Brigade of the Boys Brigade, Isaac Kwadang, confirmed the sad incident to newsmen, saying he received information of the incident around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday.
