PDP dismisses Cameroonian citizenship claims as APC’s diversionary tactics

- The PDP has dismissed claims by the APC that its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, is a Cameroonian

- The PDP described the allegation as a calculated attempt by the APC to trivialize and divert attention from the 2019 election tribunal

- The party said despite the APC's claim, Atiku would not be distracted in the pursuit of his mandate

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed claims by the All Progressives Congress (APC) that its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, is a Cameroonian.

In a statement sent to Legit.ng on Sunday, April 14 by its spokesman, Kola Ologbodiyan, the PDP described the allegation “as a calculated attempt by the APC to trivialize and divert attention from the compelling issue of their criminal rigging of the 2019 presidential election.’’

According to the PDP, the claim by the APC explains why the Buhari administration, “has remained insensitive to the challenge of insurgency, general insecurity and economic travails of Nigerians in the north-east.’’

The PDP said: “This disingenuous claim is also a woeful design by the APC to overburden, distract and bog down the presidential election petition tribunal with trivialities, lies and falsehood, so as to derail the course of justice.’

“Such diversionary tactic has however only helped in further exposing the fact that the APC has no answers to the plethora of overwhelming evidence before the tribunal that the election was won by Atiku Abubakar and the PDP.

“Whereas Atiku Abubakar’s citizenship by birth, even under our constitution, cannot be contested, it is indeed the biggest irony of the year, that Atiku’s citizenship is being disputed by individuals whose ancestry has always been a subject of debate.

“These individuals include those who, being not sure of their origins; have no love for Nigeria and even refused to be on the side of our nation at the 1985 summit of the defunct Organization of Africa Unity (OAU) in Addis Ababa.

“Such persons prefer to deploy our national resources for infrastructural development in affiliated places outside the shores of Nigeria, when our country is in dire need of attention.

“Moreover, this claim by APC appears to contain explanations as to why its administration has remained insensitive to the challenge of insurgency, general insecurity and economic travails of Nigerians in the north-east, particularly in Adamawa, Yobe, Borno and Taraba states.’’

The party said despite the APC's claim, Atiku would not be distracted in the pursuit of his mandate, adding that the party is confident that it will get justice at the end of the tribunal.

Meanwhile, the immediate past Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir David Lawal, has stated that the issue of zoning should not arise in 2023 when it is time to elect President Muhammadu Buhari's successor.

The Adamawa-born politician who made the assertion in an interview, said every part of Nigeria has qualified candidates for the presidency. adding that every zone, every state, has capable people that can run Nigeria effectively.

Buhari’s Legacy Of Recessions By Fredrick Nwabufo

Fredrick Nwabufo ‘Why always Buhari?’ As it was in 1984 under General Buhari, so it is in 2016 and 2020 under President Buhari? Is it by the unfortunate hands of kismet that recession hits Nigeria every time Buhari takes charge of the country’s affairs? If the recession of the 80s under Buhari was a conspiracy by economic and political factors, to what do we attribute that of his first coming as a civilian President — and now in his second coming? Why does pestilence scourge the land, hunger ravage the population and lives lost malevolently when Buhari presides over the country? Why always Buhari? Buhari’s undoing is his wonted predilection for hierarchising ethnicity, religion and loyalty above competence. Since 1999, no President has obtrusively shown a more nepotistic aspect than Buhari. It is unarguable that the President arrays the most competence-challenged cabinet ever in the chronicle of governance in Nigeria. Yes, a recession cabinet. Fredrick Nwabufo Here is a cabin...
