Nigerians watched Onnoghen being mob-lynched - Ozekhome

- Human rights lawyer, Mike Ozekhome, has reacted to the resignation of CJN Onnoghen

- Ozekhome blamed cabals for the predicaments of the embattled Chief Justice

- The human rights activist described Onnoghen as a victim of politics

Human right activist and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Mike Ozekhome, has described the embattled Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Walter Onnoghen as a victim of politics.

Ozekhome made this statement while reacting to the news of Onnoghen's resignation from office.

Recall that Legit.ng earlier reported that Onnoghen sent his resignation letter to President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday, April 4, 2019.

Ozekhome, while commenting on this development, said Onnoghen's fate had been predetermined by the cabal in government, The Cable reports.

He said: “I knew it would come sooner than later. When Justice Walter Onnoghen’s travails started in January, I predicted that the cabal was out to rubbish him. They desired to bespatter him with the paintbrush of shame, odium and obloquy in such a way as to make him visibly unfit for the position of the CJN. They went after his jugular, using the CCB/CCT.

“The CCT was unrelenting: it discarded its earlier precedents; ignored court rulings barring it from trying Onnoghen. It was the case of the falcon not hearing the falconer.

“The Court of Appeal became complicit. It refused to deliver judgments in Onnoghen’s cases argued before it over six weeks ago. Nigerians watched Onnoghen being mob-lynched. Onnoghen was tried in the media, criminalized, humiliated.

“So, Onnoghen, faced with the reality of the situation, knew that his faith had been pre-determined by the cabal, signed, sealed and delivered.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that the All Progressives Congress (APC) said that the resignation of the suspended chief justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen, has vindicated President Muhammadu Buhari.

Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, who is the publicity secretary of the ruling party, spoke on Friday, April 5.

He said Onnoghen should have handed in his resignation when it was discovered that he did not properly declare his asset.

Buhari’s Legacy Of Recessions By Fredrick Nwabufo

Fredrick Nwabufo ‘Why always Buhari?’ As it was in 1984 under General Buhari, so it is in 2016 and 2020 under President Buhari? Is it by the unfortunate hands of kismet that recession hits Nigeria every time Buhari takes charge of the country’s affairs? If the recession of the 80s under Buhari was a conspiracy by economic and political factors, to what do we attribute that of his first coming as a civilian President — and now in his second coming? Why does pestilence scourge the land, hunger ravage the population and lives lost malevolently when Buhari presides over the country? Why always Buhari? Buhari’s undoing is his wonted predilection for hierarchising ethnicity, religion and loyalty above competence. Since 1999, no President has obtrusively shown a more nepotistic aspect than Buhari. It is unarguable that the President arrays the most competence-challenged cabinet ever in the chronicle of governance in Nigeria. Yes, a recession cabinet. Fredrick Nwabufo Here is a cabin...
