Nasarawa attack: Local vigilante group arrests 3 suspects as Nigerian Army vows to track down perpetrators

- Nigerian Army has vowed to track down attackers of Numa Kochu village in Nasarawa state

- The military said it has partnered with the other security agencies to bring the villains to books

- Meanwhile, local residents have arrested three people suspected to be prime suspects in the attacks

Following the Sunday, April 14 attacks on Numa Kochu village in Nasarawa state, the Nigerian Army has vowed to arrest the perpetrators and make them face the wrath of the law.

Major General Adeyemi Yekini, the commander of the Operation Whirl Stroke covering Benue, Nasarawa and Taraba states, made this known while reacting to the tragic incidents.

Yekini said the troops under the operation have been directed to work with other security agencies in the state to track down the masterminds of the attack.

Addressing journalists in Lafia, the army commander said efforts have been renewed to restore peace in the troubled zone.

He said: “We don’t really have troops there at Akwanga as we speak but there are other security forces on the ground there.

“What we have done is to be collaborating with them. I have directed my troops to move to Akwanga and join other security forces to track down the perpetrators of this crisis, let us apprehend them so that justice can be done.''

Yekini also disclosed that the military has carried out nine major successful operations in Obi, Doma, Toto and Awe local government areas of Nasarawa

He added that 37 assorted weapons including a clarion 5.56 Israeli commando assault rifle, 389 ammunition, 1 grenade and local charms were recovered from the attackers.

In the same vein, the local vigilante group said it has arrested three people suspected to be perpetrators of the crime.

Numa Kochu elder, Danjo John said the suspects were arrested after being given a chase immediately they perpetrated their evils.

He said: “I got a call from the community after the incident when I got there. The persons were already arrested by the people of the community. They told me they came and were shooting guns.

“Immediately they saw the people they started running to the bush. The people pursued them and caught them there. Now we are trying to see if we can go into the bush to get their guns.''

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) on Wednesday, April 17, said its special forces had “neutralised’’ two bandits in Zamfara.

The director of public relations and information of NAF, Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, disclosed this in a statement in Abuja and said that the operation that led to the development was conducted on Tuesday, April 16.

NLNG Signs Letter Of Intent On Delayed Gas Expansion Project

The Nigerian Natural Liquefied Gas LTD has signed a letter of intent for the engineering, procurement and construction of its long held up Train Seven project. In a statement released by the company on Wednesday, it said that the $10bn project will be executed by a consortium of Italian firm Saipem, Japan’s Chiyoda and South Korea’s Daewoo. The statement reads, “The project will form part of the investment of over $10bn including the upstream scope of the LNG value chain, thereby boosting the much needed Foreign Direct Investment profile of Nigeria.” Managing Director of NLNG, Tony Atta, said in 2018 that the Final Investment Decision would be made in the fourth quarter of that year.
