N30k minimum wage: NYSC gives information on corps members’ allowance

- The NYSC said there is no new development yet on corps members; allowance

- Thus is in response to rumour that there has been an increment in the payment

- The NYSC said it would communicate appropriately when there is a development

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has asked corps members to disregard report of increment in allowance to N31, 800.

There has been report that following the signing of the new minimum wage bill by President Muhammadu Buhari, the allowance of corps members had been increased to N31, 800.

Vanguard reports that Eddy Megwa who is a deputy director of the NYSC in Abuja said the government is yet to inform the scheme of any increase in allowance.

He said the NYSC does not pay corps members directly but that any new development will be duly communicated.

He said: “The NYSC does not pay corps members any sum of money directly as stipends but the federal government does.

“Until the government is ready to implement the N30,000 minimum wage, we cannot say what corps members will earn for their service to the nation.

“Disregard any figure you find making the rounds on social media. When the federal government is ready, it will inform NYSC and we will announce it to corps members through official channels.”

Meanwhile, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) disclosed that it has begun a probe of credentials of applicants from 2009-2019.

Fabian Benjamin, the head of the media and information office of JAMB, on Monday, April 22, disclosed that the probe was being carried out with the aid of a new biometric software.
