Meet Umar, a hardworking bicycle maker from Borno

Stories like that a Umar are what some social media users rely on for inspiration. With many news from Borno and even the north east centered around terrorism which depicts danger and hopelessness, Umar - a hardworking young man from Borno, serves a beacon, proving to Nigerians that good can come out of anything.

A Twitter user identified as Ovieali shared photos of Umar, who spends most of his time building bicycles from scratch and selling them at KM 6 Dikwa road off police Hospital Maiduguri, and many internet users are proud of the young man.

Many have suggested that sponsors find him and help promote and support his work as this what needs to be encouraged in the region. Some have praised Umar's engineering skills and adviced that the country stops importing bicycles and instead focus of building young ones like Umar, who can change the future.

Meanwhile, co-convener of Bring Back Our Girl campaign, Oby Ezekwesili, has criticised the federal government over its failure to secure the release of the remaining Chibok school girls, abducted by Boko Haram insurgents exactly five years ago In Borno.

Ezekwesili, in a tweet on Saturday, April 13, said it is a shame that not a word has been uttered by the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government on the status of their rescue.

The former minister of education, however, said the girls will never be forgotten.

NLNG Signs Letter Of Intent On Delayed Gas Expansion Project

The Nigerian Natural Liquefied Gas LTD has signed a letter of intent for the engineering, procurement and construction of its long held up Train Seven project. In a statement released by the company on Wednesday, it said that the $10bn project will be executed by a consortium of Italian firm Saipem, Japan’s Chiyoda and South Korea’s Daewoo. The statement reads, “The project will form part of the investment of over $10bn including the upstream scope of the LNG value chain, thereby boosting the much needed Foreign Direct Investment profile of Nigeria.” Managing Director of NLNG, Tony Atta, said in 2018 that the Final Investment Decision would be made in the fourth quarter of that year.
