Kogi governor has cut water, electricity supply to residence of chief judge - Group alleges

- A civil society group known as the Federation of Lawyers in Active Democracy, accuses Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi state of trying to force the state chief judge, Justice Nasir Ajana, out of office

A civil society group known as the Federation of Lawyers in Active Democracy (FLAD), has alleged that the Kogi state government has cut the water and electricity supply to the official residence of the state’s chief judge, Justice Nasir Ajana.

The group accused Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi state of being behind the action as part of the pressure to force the judicial officer out of office.

The president of FLAD, Arome Husseini, claimed Justice Nasir Ajana is being intimidated because he is not in the good books of the state government, The Nation reports.

Husseini also dismissed the resolution of the state House of Assembly demanding the removal of the chief Judge from office, describing it as contrary to the provisions of the constitution.

He asked President Muhammadu Buhari to call the governor to order over the actions against the chief judge.

“Generally, the water system in Lokoja is under maintenance so, the shortage of water is across board and as I am talking to you, I am running a generator like any other person here in Lokoja," the president of FLAD noted.

“The talk about us owing the state’s judiciary staff about 10 months’ salary because of the Chief Judge’s travails is a big lie; when the Federal Government gave us the Paris Club refund of about N13 billion in November last year, labour leaders and the state government agreed on collection of four months’ outstanding salary by every worker in person.

“The judiciary workers refused to participate in the pay parade exercise for reasons best known to them and their salaries are lying there in the bank but they went on strike and even sued the state government.

“We do not have any issue with the Chief Judge because the Kogi State government under Governor Yahaya Bello does not interfere with either the Judiciary or the legislature."

Meanwhile, Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi state on Monday, April 1, called on Nigerians to show compassion and care for their fellow humans, especially those battling with health challenges and other problems.

Bello made the call in Lokoja when he received some political leaders from Ofu local government area of the state who paid him a thank-you visit for his financial supports towards saving the life of a former majority leader of the state assembly, Yakubu Yunusa.

The governor said he has over the years spent hundreds of millions of naira on saving lives of people, not only in the state, but in other parts of the country.
