The Joint Military Task Force (JTF) tagged Operation Delta Safe on Sunday, April 7, said that it has improved security in the Niger Delta by destroying and dislodging key militant camps in the region.
This was revealed in Yenagoa by the outgoing JTF Commander, Rear Admiral Apochi Suleiman, during the handing over ceremony of the mantle of leadership to his predecessor, Admiral Akingide Akinrinade, Vanguard reports.

Suleiman, in his statement said: “When I came here in 2016, there were issues of militancy all over my joint operation area, but diligently, we have taken out the major militant camps in the Niger Delta region.
“We have dislodged militant camps at Karawei in Ekeremor Local Government Area of Bayelsa. “The Bakassi strike force in Cross River, Lobia 1, 2 and 3 in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area and Lowasiri camps in Bayelsa were strong bases of militants and kidnappers.
“We have also dislodged militants in Etim Ekpo/Ukanafun Local Government Areas of Akwa Ibom and restored peace to the areas.
“The Asuzuama set of militants in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa were all dislodged.

“We tracked down Don Wayne eventually, because of the pressure of our operational activities; he ran into the hands of another security group that eventually took him out. As at today, that camp at Amoputu is closed.”
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that a group of former Niger Delta agitators - the Peace Ambassadors of Niger Delta (PAND) on Wednesday, February 13, endorsed President Buhari as its preferred candidate for the February 16 presidential election.
This was disclosed in a communiqué issued and signed by Ebikabowei Victor, the leader of PAND, at the end of a one-day workshop organised by the group in Port Harcourt.
