Italian footballer announces retirement by hiring masked men to whisk him away (video)

- Ignazio Barbagallo has announced his retirement from football in a bizarre way

- He was playing on the pitch before a helicopter landed suddenly on the playing ground

- Barbagallo was then kidnapped and taken away by the masked men before it was confirmed later that he has retired

An Italian player Ignazio Barbagallo on Thursday evening, April 4, announced his retirement from football in an unusual way by staging his own kidnapping to say farewell to fans and teammates.

Ignazio Barbagallo was playing for Viagrande in the Sicilian League and he came up with an amazing send-off with his local side as he was smuggled off into retirement.

A game was going on, and suddenly, a helicopter landed on the pitch and three blokes, two of which were wearing balaclavas jumped off which caused many fears and tension.

Barbagallo then held his hands up in surrender as two men in balaclavas hauled him off and into the helicopter which soared off straight away.

And it was after the player got into the air that his other teammates and fans knew that the kidnap was planned as a sign of retirement from football.

But the football authorities were livid with such action and however banned Barbagallo until June 30, 2018 with his club receiving a €200 fine and had a suspension from competition until May 31.

Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how world boxing champion Floyd Mayweather on Wednesday night, January 16, celebrated with Cristiano Ronaldo and his Juventus' teammates after winning the Italian Super Cup.

The 2018/19 Italian Super Cup will now be Ronaldo's first trophy with Juventus since he completed a mega million move to the club from Real Madrid.

He also scored the only goal that condemned AC Milan to a defeat in the final of the Super Cup that was played in Saudi Arabia.
