- A suspected pickpocket that was arrested at the weekend says he makes between N80,000 and N100,000 daily selling stolen phones

- The suspect, Godwin Okafor, was arrested by the operatives of the State Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences Unit for allegedly specialising in robbery and pick-pocketing

- Okafor says he started as a bus conductor 15 years ago before he transformed into a pickpocket

A man identified as Godwin Okafor has been arrested by the operatives of the State Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences Unit for allegedly specialising in robbery and pick-pocketing.

The suspect, who was arrested at the the weekend, said he makes between N80,000 and N100,000 everyday selling stolen phones, Vanguard reports.

Legit.ng gathers that the 31-year-old suspect was apprehended around Surulere area of Lagos by enforcement and monitoring patrol team of the agency.

Okafor was quoted as saying: “I make between N80,000 and N100,000 every day after selling stolen phones and other valuables from the operation.

“We have been in this robbery and pick-pocketing business for long as we dispossessed our passengers of their valuables such as wallets, jewellery, including phones, which we sold as fairly used to the public.”

According to the suspect, he started as a bus conductor 15 years ago before he transformed into a pickpocket.

The suspect, who is a ring leader of a four-man criminal gang, said he and his gang members had operated at different parts of the state, including Oshodi, Mile 2, Obalende, Pen-Cinema, Agege, Ojota and Ikorodu road.

Okafor confessed that any passenger who refused to cooperate with them was be beaten and thrown out of their commercial bus on high speed.

Chairman of the agency, CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi, said: “The suspect and three others who are currently at large, were nabbed after they jumped down from a commercial bus on top of Costain Bridge immediately they suspected that a patrol team of the agency was chasing them from Ojuelegba.”
