How Chelsea, Man United, Spurs and Arsenal could be robbed of Champions League spot

- Champions League spot: Finishing as fourth best may no longer be a guarantee for Premier League teams

- Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham are the four teams fighting for the third and fourth place this season

- UEFA are said to be planning for a revamp in the Champions League competition

With six games to the end of 2018/19 Premier League season, Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Totteham are the teams fighting to finish behind Man City and Liverpool.

The rules guiding the Champions League allow four Premier League teams to participate in the competition in which the fourth placed team would have to play a play off to get into the group stages.

But finishing fourth in Premier League may no longer seal Champions League spot according to the latest report on UK Sun.

The report added that Premier League clubs are expected to be told the plans for a revamp of the Champions League later on Friday, April 5.

It involves the competition almost becoming a closed shop thereby making it increasingly difficult for teams outside of the previous year's edition to qualify.

Andrea Agnelli who is the head of the European Club Association is said to be behind this proposal.

And should the proposal be accepted and ratified, then it means finishing as fourth best will no longer be a guarantee to play in the Champions League for Premier League teams.

Meanwhile, Tottenham are currently occupying third position, Arsenal on fourth, Chelsea are fifth while Manchester United are placed sixth.

Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how embattled Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri told the club's chiefs and fans that he will deliver title-challenging team if they give him one pre-season to sort his squad.

Maurizio Sarri is currently under fire at Stamford Bridge due to unimpressive performance this season which has led to criticism from the Blues' supporters.

But the Italian football tactician has pleaded for the time to finally work with his players and the results will come.

The Transitional Phase of African Poetry

The Transitional Phase The second phase, which we have chosen to call transitional, is represented by the poetry of writers like Abioseh Nicol, Gabriel Okara, Kwesi Brew, Dennis Brutus, Lenrie Peters and Joseph Kariuki. This is poetry which is written by people we normally refer to as modem and who may be thought of as belonging to the third phase. The characteristics of this poetry are its competent and articulate use of the received European language, its unforced grasp of Africa’s physical, cultural and socio-political environment and often its lyricism. To distinguish this type of poetry we have to refer back to the concept of appropriation we introduced earlier. At the simplest and basic level, the cultural mandate of possessing a people’s piece of the earth involves a mental and emotional homecoming within the physical environment. Poems like Brew’s ‘‘Dry season”, Okara’s “Call of the River Nun”, Nicol’s “The meaning of Africa” and Soyinka’s “Season”, to give a few examples,

The pioneering phase of African Poetry

The pioneering phase We have called the first phase that of the pioneers. But since the phrase “pioneer poets” has often been used of writers of English expression like Osadebay, Casely-Hayford and Dei-Anag, we should point out that our “pioneer phase” also includes Negritude poets of French expression. The poetry of this phase is that of writers in “exile” keenly aware of being colonials, whose identity was under siege. It is a poetry of protest against exploitation and racial discrimination, of agitation for political independence, of nostalgic evocation of Africa’s past and visions of her future. However, although these were themes common to poets of both English and French expression, the obvious differences between the Francophone poets and the Anglophone writers of the 1930s and 1940s have been generally noted. Because of the intensity with which they felt their physical exile from Africa, coupled with their exposure to the experimental contemporary modes of writing in F
