A group has berated a coalition of civil society organisations in Imo state over its threat to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to issue certificate of return to the senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress ( APC), Senator Ben Uwajumogu, as winner of February 23 elections.
Leadership reports that while addressing a press conference on Tuesday, April 9, in Abuja, the national secretary of the forum, Chief Regis Uwakwe, asked INEC to totally ignore the call and ultimatum, describing it as a threat to democracy and invitation to anarchy.

Legit.ng gathered that he said the group had issued a 24-hour ultimatum to INEC mandating it to issue a certificate of return to Senator Ben Uwajumogu as senator-elect.
He said: “We are aware that two unregistered organisations claiming to represent a coalition of civil society organisations ‘Conscience Nigeria’ and Stand Up Nigeria, have issued a 24-hour ultimatum to INEC mandating it to issue a certificate of return to Senator Ben Uwajumogu as senator-elect.''
The Okigwe leaders’ group called on INEC to declare the authentic and comprehensive result of the senatorial elections held on February 23 and March 9, which they claimed was won by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Patrick Ndubueze.
The group stated that the delay in the announcement of the result could lead to the breakdown of law and order, as those who voted in the election already know the result and are becoming restive.
The group, however, commended INEC for setting up the national committee on Imo north senatorial election to ascertain the veracity or otherwise of allegations of misconduct as well as compliance with INEC procedure.
It also called on the security agencies to prosecute the returning officer, Prof. Donatus Ohajianya, who was alleged to have attempted to announce fake results when collation was ongoing.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that Governor Rochas Okorocha alleged that the activities of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Imo during the announcement of election results were designed to scuttle democracy in the state.
It was reporetd that Okorocha made the allegation on Tuesday, April 9, while briefing newsmen in Owerri on INEC’s continued refusal to issue him the certificate of return as the winner of the Imo west senatorial district election.
