Governorship election: Plateau PDP chieftain rejects probe committee

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau, Chief Alexander Mwolwus, has rejected the constitution of a committee to probe the party’s misfortunes during the March 9 Governorship election in the state.

Mwolwus told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Pankshin on Thursday, April 4, that the formation of the committee was detrimental to the party’s collective interest.

NAN reports that the leadership of the party in the state had on Monday constituted a committee to probe the party’s defeat at the poll.

The party took the decision because it suspected that some of its members connived with the governing party in the state, the APC, to ensure its (APC) victory at the poll.

Chief Damishi Sango, the state party chairman, had tasked the committee to pin-point any member of the party that played any negative act that led to the defeat of the party by the APC in the election.

But Mwolwus said: “I don’t see any wisdom in the setting up of that probe committee. This is because a house divided against itself can never stand.

“Since we have a common goal and fight at the tribunal toward reclaiming our stolen mandate, that probe can wait till we are through.

“We can, after succeeding at tribunal, deal with whoever stabbed us in the back during the polls, ” he said.

Mwolwus, a former Special Adviser to former Gov. Jonah Jang on political matters, further said, “our attention is urgently needed at the tribunal and anything that will distract us must be strongly avoided”.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the APC had said that allegation that Kwara governor-elect, Alhaji Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq forged his Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSSC) is laughable.

The party said those spreading the falsehood were engaged in a futile exercise.

The governor-elect was alleged to have forged the SSSC he presented to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the state’s gubernatorial election. Malam Lanre Issa-Onilu, APC national publicity secretary said in a statement on Thursday, April 4, in Abuja, that the allegation was politically motivated.

Buhari’s Legacy Of Recessions By Fredrick Nwabufo

Fredrick Nwabufo ‘Why always Buhari?’ As it was in 1984 under General Buhari, so it is in 2016 and 2020 under President Buhari? Is it by the unfortunate hands of kismet that recession hits Nigeria every time Buhari takes charge of the country’s affairs? If the recession of the 80s under Buhari was a conspiracy by economic and political factors, to what do we attribute that of his first coming as a civilian President — and now in his second coming? Why does pestilence scourge the land, hunger ravage the population and lives lost malevolently when Buhari presides over the country? Why always Buhari? Buhari’s undoing is his wonted predilection for hierarchising ethnicity, religion and loyalty above competence. Since 1999, no President has obtrusively shown a more nepotistic aspect than Buhari. It is unarguable that the President arrays the most competence-challenged cabinet ever in the chronicle of governance in Nigeria. Yes, a recession cabinet. Fredrick Nwabufo Here is a cabin...
