Reports have emerged that some governors, ministers, and senators and other persons holding elective offices are bent on removing the acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, ahead of May 29.
The Nation reports that some governors who would have completed their eight-year tenure on May 29 are reportedly mounting pressure on some presidency officials to prevail on President Muhammadu Buhari to sack Magu.

The newspaper states the detailed investigation of the outgoing Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Justice Walter Onnoghen by the EFCC has unsettled some governors who are now jittery about Magu’s retention.
A source who asked not to be named said as part of the plot to remove Magu, those who want him out have been alleging that the EFCC chairman’s stay might not assist the interest of the APC in 2023.
“The arrowheads, including outgoing governors, have begun smear campaigns to poison the minds of Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and the First Lady, Mrs. Aisha Buhari, against Magu," the source said.
“They are said to be relying on three bogus/ fake reports against Magu allegedly submitted to the Presidency by an unknown government agency."

“They are also alleging lack of loyalty against Magu, claiming that he is working against APC’s interest from now till 2023.
The unnamed official said those opposed to Magu’s stay have involved politically exposed persons in the APC and the PDP in the plot to remove the EFCC boss.
The source said some senators are aware that there are pending investigations against them, including over N1trillion unexecuted constituency project and are afraid that Magu may go after them once they lose their privileged positions.
In another news report, EFCC on Monday, April 8, announced that five alleged train ticket racketeers in Abuja, the capital of Nigeria have been arrested.
It also confirmed that another set of such suspects have been arrested in Kaduna. In one of the separate statements obtained by Legit.ng, the anti-graft agency gave the names of the five arrested suspects to include Clement Zakka, Udim Sunday Samson, Adams Danladi, Otitomoni Omobolanle and Hassan Dauda.
The statement said the suspects were arrested during a sting operation at the stations and that they would soon be charged to court.
