Reports have emerged that some governors, ministers, and senators and other persons holding elective offices are bent on removing the acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, ahead of May 29.

The newspaper states the detailed investigation of the outgoing Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Justice Walter Onnoghen by the EFCC has unsettled some governors who are now jittery about Magu’s retention.

A source who asked not to be named said as part of the plot to remove Magu, those who want him out have been alleging that the EFCC chairman’s stay might not assist the interest of the APC in 2023.

“The arrowheads, including outgoing governors, have begun smear campaigns to poison the minds of Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and the First Lady, Mrs. Aisha Buhari, against Magu," the source said.

“They are said to be relying on three bogus/ fake reports against Magu allegedly submitted to the Presidency by an unknown government agency."

“They are also alleging lack of loyalty against Magu, claiming that he is working against APC’s interest from now till 2023.

The unnamed official said those opposed to Magu’s stay have involved politically exposed persons in the APC and the PDP in the plot to remove the EFCC boss.

The source said some senators are aware that there are pending investigations against them, including over N1trillion unexecuted constituency project and are afraid that Magu may go after them once they lose their privileged positions.

In another news report, EFCC on Monday, April 8, announced that five alleged train ticket racketeers in Abuja, the capital of Nigeria have been arrested.

It also confirmed that another set of such suspects have been arrested in Kaduna. In one of the separate statements obtained by Legit.ng, the anti-graft agency gave the names of the five arrested suspects to include Clement Zakka, Udim Sunday Samson, Adams Danladi, Otitomoni Omobolanle and Hassan Dauda.

The statement said the suspects were arrested during a sting operation at the stations and that they would soon be charged to court.

The Transitional Phase of African Poetry

The Transitional Phase The second phase, which we have chosen to call transitional, is represented by the poetry of writers like Abioseh Nicol, Gabriel Okara, Kwesi Brew, Dennis Brutus, Lenrie Peters and Joseph Kariuki. This is poetry which is written by people we normally refer to as modem and who may be thought of as belonging to the third phase. The characteristics of this poetry are its competent and articulate use of the received European language, its unforced grasp of Africa’s physical, cultural and socio-political environment and often its lyricism. To distinguish this type of poetry we have to refer back to the concept of appropriation we introduced earlier. At the simplest and basic level, the cultural mandate of possessing a people’s piece of the earth involves a mental and emotional homecoming within the physical environment. Poems like Brew’s ‘‘Dry season”, Okara’s “Call of the River Nun”, Nicol’s “The meaning of Africa” and Soyinka’s “Season”, to give a few examples,

A former Director-General of the Nigeria Maritime Agency, Buba Galadima, has accused the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria of witch-hunt after the agency took possession of his business and assets on Tuesday in Abuja. Galadima, an ardent critic of President Muhammadu Buhari, claimed that he did not borrow money or have unpaid debt with Unity Bank, which lodged a complaint against him and occasioned AMCON’s move on Tuesday. The properties taken over include House No. 15, Addis Ababa Crescent, Wuse Zone 4, Federal Capital Territory, Abuja and House No. 4, Bangui Street, Wuse 2, also in Abuja.  Reacting to the situation, Galadima said, “This is an attempt to disgrace and break me down. This is injustice and an attempt to humiliate me. "But I am unbreakable and they can never silence me. They sacked me and over 50 people that sleep in the apartment. "We don’t know where to go.
