Legit.ng gathers that Gaya, who is representing Kano South senatorial district on the platform of APC, said he is the most ranking senator from the northwest zone, hence he is the most qualified from the zone to become deputy Senate president.
He said northwest contributed the highest votes that led to the victory of the APC at the presidential election, hence should be allowed to produce the deputy Senate president.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that former Senate leader and key contender for the Senate president, Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, said he would remain in the race till the elections for the 9th National Assembly leadership are conducted, won and lost.
Senator Ndume stated this on Thursday, April 4, while speaking with journalists in Abuja, Leadership reports.
The senator said his insistence on contesting for Senate president should not be interpreted as a mark of disrespect for his party which has already endorsed Senate leader Ahmed Lawan for the position.
Senator Ndume said he has the right to aspire and contest for any leadership position in the Senate.

He said: “Let me say that the decision by the party to settle for an individual instead of zoning the position to a particular geopolitical zone and also consulting or allowing the senators from that zone to decide who among them they prefer as Senate president, is not a healthy democratic development."
