FIFA Women's World Cup trophy lands in Nigeria (photos)

FIFA Women's World Cup title is currently on tour to several cities in the world ahead of the 2019 edition of the tournament which kicks off in June this year.

The silverware, which is the most prestigious prize in women football landed in Abuja on Thursday, April 11.

With the Nigeria Football Federation officials led by Seyi Akinwunmi receiving the title as well as the delegation that came along with it at the Federal Capital Territory.

Also in attendance at the reception of the prestigious prize was head of Nigeria Women Football League Aisha Falode.

Former Super Eagles striker Peter Odemwingie, who recently announced his retirement from football was also part of the those who received the title.

While some Super Falcons stars also took pictures with the trophy which they will be fighting to lift this summer when the competition begins proper in June.

Coach Thomas Dennerby's ladies have been drawn in Group A along side football powerhouse like France, Norway and South Korea.

And the Swede tactician is hoping his side can surpass the quarterfinal berth set by the 1999 squad in the United States.

Ever since then, Nigeria have not performed well at the global football fiesta.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Super Falcons suffered 2-1 defeat to Canada in a friendly meeting in Spain earlier this week.

Desire Oparanozie opened scoring for the Nigeria's women senior national team in the 9th minute of the encounter.

But two second half goals from Beckie Janine and Schmidt ensured the Canadians came from one goal down to beat the west African side after regulation period.
