- The minister of transportation urged Nigerians to be patient with the government

The minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi has said that the federal government will need about $40bn investments, representing about N12.24trn to connect major Nigerian cities by rail.

Amaechi urged Nigerians to be patient saying the project requires huge financial demand and that it will be done as resources are available.

He said the amount needed is about 150 percent of the 2019 budget estimate but that the government is open to private investors willing to invest in Nigeria’s railways.

He said: “I tell Nigerians, everybody has to be patient because we need between $36 to $40bn to be able to do that connectivity.”

On the lingering coastal rail he said “we have not gotten money. We are even still looking for money for Lagos to Kano. I come from South-South and I am emotionally attached to that project but it is unfortunate that we have not gotten money. It was awarded under President Jonathan and President Obasanjo. The directive of the President is that we should do everything possible to get the inter-connectivity of the tracks.”

Legit.ng had reported that Amaechi says the federal government will ensure due process in the construction of the Ibadan Inland Dry Port. He made the pledge during an inspection tour of the site located at Olorisa-Oko village in Moniya area of Ibadan.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the minister in company with Hassan Bello, the executive secretary of Nigeria Shippers Council, were received by the Oyo state deputy governor, Moses Adeyemo.

Buhari’s Legacy Of Recessions By Fredrick Nwabufo

Fredrick Nwabufo ‘Why always Buhari?’ As it was in 1984 under General Buhari, so it is in 2016 and 2020 under President Buhari? Is it by the unfortunate hands of kismet that recession hits Nigeria every time Buhari takes charge of the country’s affairs? If the recession of the 80s under Buhari was a conspiracy by economic and political factors, to what do we attribute that of his first coming as a civilian President — and now in his second coming? Why does pestilence scourge the land, hunger ravage the population and lives lost malevolently when Buhari presides over the country? Why always Buhari? Buhari’s undoing is his wonted predilection for hierarchising ethnicity, religion and loyalty above competence. Since 1999, no President has obtrusively shown a more nepotistic aspect than Buhari. It is unarguable that the President arrays the most competence-challenged cabinet ever in the chronicle of governance in Nigeria. Yes, a recession cabinet. Fredrick Nwabufo Here is a cabin...
