Elections 2019: INEC finally reacts to Atiku’s server ‘results’

- INEC said the result released by Atiku claiming he won the 2019 presidential election is fake

- The electoral commission stated this in its response filed at the tribunal on Thursday, April 11 in Abuja

- The commission, therefore, accused Atiku of manufacturing results of the last presidential election to prove his case at the tribunal

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has finally reacted to the result released the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)'s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, which he claimed to have gotten from the commission's server.

In a response filed at the tribunal on Thursday, April 11 in Abuja, the electoral umpire accused Atiku of manufacturing results of the last presidential election to prove his case at the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal.

Premium Times reports that INEC distanced itself from an electronic sheet that Atiku claimed contained the genuine results of the presidential election.

Recall that Atiku's legal team submitted the sheet at the tribunal in March, claiming it was obtained from an internal compilation of results on INEC’s internet server.

Amongst other submissions, the legal team alleged that Atiku won by more than six million votes and accused INEC of manipulating his victory in favour of President Muhammadu Buhari.

INEC, however, dismissed the claim, saying it “does not share information with such an unclassified entity and any information purportedly derived therefrom which does not accord with the result as declared by INEC is not authentic but rather was invented for the purpose” of the tribunal.

In the 291-page response, INEC said it did not transmit results via electronic channels, but used manual collation as stipulated by law.

“INEC specifically denies the existence of electronic transmission of results and it is unknown to the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended),” it said.

President Buhari was declared winner of the polls with about 3.9 million votes and will be sworn in for a second term on May 29.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the All Progressives Congress (APC) petitioned the Department of State Services (DSS) and Acting Inspector General of Police Mohammed Adamu to investigate Atiku for allegedly hacking into INEC's server. The ruling party accused him of maliciously accessing INEC’s files.
