Elections 2019: Again, INEC speaks on Buhari's academic qualification

- INEC said it was satisfied with the educational qualification presented by President Buhari to contest the 2019 presidential election

- The electoral commission made this known in its response filed at the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal in Abuja

- Recall that Atiku had again questioned President Buhari's certificate in one of his major grounds of petition filed against the president's victory

- INEC also argued that Atiku’s petition was lacking in merit and urged the tribunal to dismiss it

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said it was satisfied by the academic documents submitted by President Muhammadu Buhari to contest for the 2019 presidential election.

Recall that President Buhari's school certificate was one of the major points raised by the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, in his petition filed at the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal.

Atiku’s legal team said President Buhari claimed, in INEC filings, to have attended a school that could not be traced, adding that the president claimed to bear a certificate that was not in existence at the time he claimed to have obtained it.

However, INEC in its response to Atiku’s grounds at the Presidential Elections Petitions Tribunal in Abuja, said it had no objections about President Buhari’s academic documents, Premium Times reports.

The newspaper adds that the electoral commission said it was “satisfied with the educational qualification presented” by President Buhari to contest for the apex political office.

The commission also argued that Atiku’s petition was “incompetent”, “lacking in merit” and “frivolous” thereby urging the tribunal to dismiss it.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that INEC had finally reacted to the result released by Atiku which he claimed to have gotten from the commission's server.

The electoral umpire accused Atiku of manufacturing results of the last presidential election to prove his case at the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal.

INEC further distanced itself from an electronic sheet that Atiku claimed contained the genuine results of the presidential election.
