Election tribunal begins sitting in Adamawa, receives 19 petitions

- An election petition tribunal will begin its sitting in Adamawa state in consideration of complaints arising from the 2019 elections

- The tribunal confirms that it has received 19 petitions concerning the recently conducted elections in the state

- The petitions so far received concern the senatorial, House of Representatives and Assembly elections

An election petition tribunal set up to look into the 2019 exercise in Adamawa state is set to commence its inaugural sitting with its official disclosing that it already has 19 complaints.

Legit.ng understands that the inaugural sitting of the tribunal has been slated for Monday, April 8, 2019, at the new high court complex in Jimeta, Yola, at 11am.

A notice of the sitting signed by the secretary of the tribunal, Godwin Agbo, confirmed this on Saturday, April 6.

The governorship election in the state was won by the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umaru Fintiri.

Fintiri was congratulated by the incumbent governor, Mohammed Jibrilla Bindow, who contested on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and lost, as well as Senator Abdulaziz Nyako of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Meanwhile, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that tribunal sitting in Yola said it had received 19 petitions.

It quoted Godwin Ezenwa as making the confirmation adding that the petitions comprised of two for Senate, seven for House of Representatives, and 10 for House of Assembly.

Legit.ng earlier reported how the speaker of the Adamawa state House of Assembly escaped with the mace on Tuesday, April 3, to halt a planned impeachment of the governor.

The drama happened when the lawmakers reconvened to consider the executive letter from the governor that he was proceeding on two weeks leave.
