Eagland star names the team he will be backing during the Manchester derby

James Milner has disclosed he will be temporarily be a Manchester United fan on Wednesday, April 24 when they clash with city rivals Manchester City – but will not seeing the game on TV.

According to UK Sun, Milner while growing up supported grew Leeds United and also played for his boyhood club before heading for Man City and Liverpool, with all three clubs enemies of the Old Trafford dwellers.

However, the 33-year-old former Three Lions star and his Reds team-mates will be hoping Manchester United help them in their English Premier League title quest, by beating the Cityzens on Wednesday night.

The Kop side will end the campaign on 97 points if they win all of their remaining matches – but that would not guarantee a first Premier League silverware after 29 years.

And Milner was quick to add that irrespective of the final result of the Manchester derby showdown the race to the title is still not over.

Speaking with the Daily Mail after Liverpool’s 2-0 win at Cardiff on Sunday, April 21, Milner explained why he prefers United to win the contest.

“It'll be the first time in my life! I don't watch (games like these), to be honest. It's a bit of a waste of energy, isn't it, willing the ball into the goal and things like that. I can't do anything about it.

“Maybe I'll put my phone away for a couple of hours and check it after. Maybe I'll go and grab some food or whatever.

“There are three games left. United will be a challenge for City, but it's the old cliché – any game is tough in the Premier League no matter who you play.

“To try and win a league title is not easy, whoever you play. Trust me, I know.

“Remember QPR (against Man City in 2012)? To beat anyone is tough when it is all on the line. We've still got some tough games ourselves – and we have to win those and keep the pressure up,” added Milner, who insists the Reds have plenty to be positive about after winning eight matches in a role since a goalless draw at Everton.

“For a long time we have had our head round the fact that we just need to win all of our games. If we do that and it's not good enough, you have to hold your hands up and say ‘well done City’.

“All we can do is keep asking them questions and keep winning our games.

“We know they're a top team and they've done it before. It's about encouragement at how we have improved.

“Of course it's frustrating that we could have one defeat and it might still not be enough, but all we can do is win the rest of our games and keep putting them under pressure.”

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Cardiff City suffered a 0-2 defeat in the hand of Liverpool at Cardiff City Stadium on Sunday, April 21, in a tough Premier League clash.

The match saw the Jurgen Klopp tutored-side miss a golden chance to net the opening goal after 22 minutes, with Brazilian star Roberto Firmino blasting his effort over the crossbar from inside six-yards.

The home-side looked dangerous on the counter, but their finishing in front of Liverpool’s goal was their greatest problem.
