Manchester United on Wednesday night, April 10, faced Spanish champions Barcelona in the first leg of their Champions League quarterfinal encounter which ended 1-0 in favor of the Catalans.

But even before the match was played at Old Trafford, there were talks and debates among football fans and pundits on Lionel Messi and Manchester United defender Chris Smalling.

Many were of the thoughts that it would be difficult for Chris Smalling to handle Lionel Messi in the encounter, while some stated that the Englishman would do so.

Chris Smalling was also reported to have explained that he knew how to handle Lionel Messi before the game.

And during the Champions League encounter at Old Trafford, Chris Smalling and Lionel Messi had a challenge which gave the Argentine a wound on his nose.

Fans have now taken to social media to react on what happened between Lionel Messi and Chris Smalling on Wednesday night, April 10.

Meanwhile, Chris Smalling insisted that Manchester United deserved more as their hopes of reaching the last four were dealt a big blow after losing against Barcelona.

Luke Shaw's early own goal gave the visitors a slender lead to take back to Spain for next week's second leg.

Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how Barcelona are one leg through to the semifinals of this season's Champions League following their slim victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford.

The Catalans took the lead through an own goal from Luke Shaw who deflected Luis Suarez's header into his side's net in the 12 minute.

Marcus Rashford tried restoring parity for the Red Devils almost immediately after conceding their first goal but his efforts was intercepted by the visitors defenders.

NLNG Signs Letter Of Intent On Delayed Gas Expansion Project

The Nigerian Natural Liquefied Gas LTD has signed a letter of intent for the engineering, procurement and construction of its long held up Train Seven project. In a statement released by the company on Wednesday, it said that the $10bn project will be executed by a consortium of Italian firm Saipem, Japan’s Chiyoda and South Korea’s Daewoo. The statement reads, “The project will form part of the investment of over $10bn including the upstream scope of the LNG value chain, thereby boosting the much needed Foreign Direct Investment profile of Nigeria.” Managing Director of NLNG, Tony Atta, said in 2018 that the Final Investment Decision would be made in the fourth quarter of that year.
