Army trains 67 security operatives on military operations other than war

- 67 security operatives have completed a training on how to plan and execute Military Operations Other Than War (MOOTW)

- The operatives were drawn from the army, DSS, Nigerian Immigration Service and the NSCDC

- The training is geared towards improving the professional efficiency of officers and soldiers

The 81 Division of the Nigerian Army (NA) in Lagos on Thursday, April 4 completed its training of 67 security operatives on how to plan and execute Military Operations Other Than War (MOOTW).

The 67 operatives were drawn from the army, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Abubakar-Sadick Liman, the commandant, Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Centre (NAFRC), expressed optimism that the trainees would use the knowledge acquired for better performances.

Liman, who acknowledged the hard work the participants had put into their submissions in the course of the training, said he was sure that the cadre experience would come in handy in their various courses, either in their service/organisation or courses at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College.

The commandant, who was the special guest at the event, noted that the officers’ knowledge was broadened to see intelligence gathering as a tool for successful conduct of military operations, logistics planning in MOOTW, and social media, among other things.

“I am therefore convinced that these topics were carefully selected for the cadre, in fulfillment of the Army Headquarters’ and the Division’s Training Directives. This is bearing in mind the Chief of Army Staff’s (COAS’) vision.

“Let me also quickly point out here that as middle/junior commanders and staff officers, this cadre experience will come handy in your various courses, either in your service/organisation or courses at Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC).

“It will equally be beneficial in command and staff roles while carrying out your professional military duties,” he said.

Speaking to journalists after the event, Major-General Musa Yusuf, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division, said that the training was to improve the professional efficiency of officers and soldiers.

“Training like this is done in order to improve the professional efficiency of our officers and soldiers.

“It is to make our officers better professionals in the discharge of their duty, be it in peace time or in operational areas,” he said.

The trainees, drawn from Lagos and Ogun states, comprised 58 personnel from the army, two each from NIS, DSS, and NCS, and three from NSCDC.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has reiterated its commitment to support the Nigeria Police, DSS and other security agencies with real time ‪geospatial and imagery intelligence whilst making available its air assets for the ‬conduct of tactical air support missions and ‪increasing the frequency of air reconnaissance along the Abuja-Kaduna Highway and Kaduna-Birnin Gwari axis.

This is part of inter-agency cooperation to address security challenges in the country, especially the issue of kidnapping and armed banditry along the route.

The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Baba Abubakar, disclosed this on Wednesday, April 3, while playing host to the Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, and the Director General DSS, Yusuf Bichi, at Headquarters NAF, Abuja.
