Legit.ng gathered that dozens of the residents with their luggage, were on Thursday, April 11, arrived at the Bakassi camp, as some military trucks and escort vehicles were said to have been parked near the arena where the evacuated residents assembled.

Some military personnel and officials of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) were seen making plans to commence the return of the people to Jakana.

It was learnt that about five trucks were later seen conveying the evacuated residents by midday, with NEMA north east spokesman, Abdulkadir Ibrahim, confirming the move to relocate the evacuated Jakana residents.

“The Nigerian military and camp management officials at Bakassi IDPs camp preparing for the relocation of the evacuated people of Jankana back to their community, after conclusion of military operations to flush out insurgents in the area,” he said in a statement.

He said the relocation will commence with evacuation of women, children and the other vulnerable groups before the men.

“Food and non food items are being mobilised by NEMA for distribution in Jankana community, to reduce the effect of the disruption of economic activities as a result of the evacuation,” he disclosed.

It was gathered that some of the residents were hurriedly evacuated on Monday, April 8, by the military troops without any previous information.

The spokesman of the Operation Lafiya Dole, Col Ado Isa, said the move was to prevent collateral damage, following an ongoing military operation to flush out Boko Haram from the area.

There was no official statistics of the evacuated residents, but the United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria puts the figure at roughly 10,000.

Buhari’s Legacy Of Recessions By Fredrick Nwabufo

Fredrick Nwabufo ‘Why always Buhari?’ As it was in 1984 under General Buhari, so it is in 2016 and 2020 under President Buhari? Is it by the unfortunate hands of kismet that recession hits Nigeria every time Buhari takes charge of the country’s affairs? If the recession of the 80s under Buhari was a conspiracy by economic and political factors, to what do we attribute that of his first coming as a civilian President — and now in his second coming? Why does pestilence scourge the land, hunger ravage the population and lives lost malevolently when Buhari presides over the country? Why always Buhari? Buhari’s undoing is his wonted predilection for hierarchising ethnicity, religion and loyalty above competence. Since 1999, no President has obtrusively shown a more nepotistic aspect than Buhari. It is unarguable that the President arrays the most competence-challenged cabinet ever in the chronicle of governance in Nigeria. Yes, a recession cabinet. Fredrick Nwabufo Here is a cabin...
