9th NASS: More intrigues as Adamawa APC unveils candidates for Senate president, House speaker

- Adamawa APC has declared its support for the party candidates for 9th NASS leadership, Ahmed Lawan and Femi Gbajabiamila

- The party condemned the activities of some members of the party who were opposing the decision of the APC leadership

- Adamwa APC said decision of the party was binding on all APC senators and members of the House of Representatives

The Adamawa chapter of the All Progressives Congress(APC) has thrown its weight behind the candidatures of Senator Ahmed Lawal and Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila for the leadership of the 9th National Assembly

Alhaji Ahmed Lawal, the state organising secretary of the party, made the declaration in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday, April 13, in Yola.

Legit.ng gathers that Lawal, who said he was speaking on behalf of the party, said that the decision of the party leadership at the national level to endorse the duo was logical.

According to him, Lawan is already the Senate majority leader, while Gbajabiamila is the House Leader.

He said that the decision of the party was binding on all APC senators and members of the House of Representatives.

He condemned the activities of some members of the party who were opposing the decision of the APC leadership.

He said: “As far as Adamawa APC is concern, the decision of the national leadership of the party is final, hence party supremacy.

“The endorsement of Ahmed Lawal and Femi Gbajabiamila for national leadership is logical since they are leaders of the APC caucus in the national assembly.

“All members of the APC irrespective of their status should abide by the decision of our party leadership.

“Any decision taken by Adams Oshiomhole, and Ahmed Tinubu, who is the national leader of our dear party is in the best interest of the APC in particular and the nation in general.

“Any member of the party who oppose such a decision should be sanctioned immediately.''

The organising secretary commended Tinubu for his contributions to the party from its formation in 2013 till date.

Lawal urged the national leader of the party not to be deterred by marginal internal wrangling and remain resolute to work toward sustainability of APC for taking Nigeria to ‘Next Level’.

NAN reports that the APC national leadership has endorsed Lawal and Gbajabiamila as Senate President and Speaker, House of Representatives respectively.

However, some APC members at the NASS were allegedly opposing the decision of the party on the endorsement.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the leadership of the All Progressive Congress (APC) and the presidency had been urged by the All Progressives Youth Solidarity Network to withdraw support for incumbent Senate leader, Ahmed Lawan, as their anointed choice for the Senate presidency in the 9th Assembly.

The coordinator of the group, Comrade Shuaibu Usman, while addressing newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday, April 10, said all contenders for the office – Senators Ahmed Lawan (majority leader), Ali Ndume (erstwhile Senate leader) and Danjuma Goje (chairman, Senate Committee on Appropriation) - had been tainted, as they played prominent roles in the current Senate leadership led by Senator Bukola Saraki.

Buhari’s Legacy Of Recessions By Fredrick Nwabufo

Fredrick Nwabufo ‘Why always Buhari?’ As it was in 1984 under General Buhari, so it is in 2016 and 2020 under President Buhari? Is it by the unfortunate hands of kismet that recession hits Nigeria every time Buhari takes charge of the country’s affairs? If the recession of the 80s under Buhari was a conspiracy by economic and political factors, to what do we attribute that of his first coming as a civilian President — and now in his second coming? Why does pestilence scourge the land, hunger ravage the population and lives lost malevolently when Buhari presides over the country? Why always Buhari? Buhari’s undoing is his wonted predilection for hierarchising ethnicity, religion and loyalty above competence. Since 1999, no President has obtrusively shown a more nepotistic aspect than Buhari. It is unarguable that the President arrays the most competence-challenged cabinet ever in the chronicle of governance in Nigeria. Yes, a recession cabinet. Fredrick Nwabufo Here is a cabin...
