Two people have been reportedly killed while three persons were injured after an attack by suspected herdsmen in Iyemero-Ekiti, Ikole local government area of Ekiti state.

Vanguard reports that the assailants invaded the people’s farmstead in the early hours of Monday, April 15, while the residents were asleep.

Legit.ng gathered that the incident occurred at Eda, one of the farmsteads and communities in Iyemero town.

According to the newspaper, multiple sources within Iyemero identified one of the dead as Danjuma Ali, and the second person as a farmer whose bodies had been deposited in the morgue.

It was learnt that those undergoing medicare at the emergency section of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido Ekiti include Jennifer Akoko, Joseph Achebe and an unidentified victim.

A source, who was said to have raised the alarm over the sad incident, said: “It has happened again today (yesterday), it has become a recurrent killing. They came around 1am and were there till dawn. Our farmers are all afraid to go to their farmsteads.

''They all rushed to the palace of Oba Ebenezer Agboola Ogungbemi, the Olu of Iyemero Ekiti to take refuge. We are mourning today at Iyemero, we are not happy about this incident and the government must do something about it.''

The Olu of Iyemero, Oba Ogungbemi and Olu-in-council, restated their calls for the establishment of a police station in the town to curb re-occurrence.

Oba Ogungbemi, who spoke through the palace's spokesman, Chief Ariyo Abejide, said there was the need for the teeming population of farmers in this farmstead to be protected and secured by the security agencies from another seemingly and imminent attacks from the marauders.

He said: “These herders stormed the community through the border of Iyemero at Eruku in Kwara state. This makes Iyemero a porous exit and entrant, which portends dangers and insecurity to the community, Ikole local government and the state in general.”

The police public relations officer, Ekiti command, DSP Caleb Ikechukwu, said he had not been briefed about the matter.
