Zaria gave Buhari highest votes in 2019 presidential election

With Zaria's 111,082 votes for President Muhammadu Buhari in the Saturday, February 23 presidential election, the local government has emerged as the local government that gave the president highest number of votes out of the 774 local governments.

Legit.ng gathers that Kaduna state governor, Nasir El-Rufai, showered praises on the residents of the area for their “unalloyed support” for the president, Daily Trust reports.

According to a resident identified as Yunus Ahmad, the votes could have been higher than that if 70% of the eligible voters voted.

He said: “Zaria has been one of the strongholds of the president. Residents of the city practice politics of ideology. This was why during the first and second republics the city has been the stronghold of the NEPU and PRP, respectively.

“We know what we want from any particular politician. Zaria always votes for people with integrity not moneybags. We believe that somebody with integrity and honesty would always do the biddings of the common man and this is why Zaria is always with President Buhari.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that former vice president Atiku Abubakar was advised to congratulate President Muhammadu Buhari rather than wasting resources to contest the 2019 presidential election results in court.

The advice was given by a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former deputy governorship candidate in Anambra, Dozie Ikedife Jnr.

The APC chieftain advised the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate to join hands with the APC-led federal government to take Nigeria to the next level.

Ikedife said President Buhari’s emergence as winner of the election was expected as well as deserving “because of his track record in the concluding first tenure”.

He said: “If you look at the President’s acceptance across the nation, it has increased tremendously. So, that is something to celebrate. I’m very happy that Nigerians have given President Buhari new political capital to govern us for another four years.

“This is what we expected because we told our people to support APC so that in 2023 an Igbo man can lay claim to the presidency under the APC platform. And it has happened.”

According to the APC chieftain, he expects more Nigerians of Igbo extraction to show presence in the APC because “they are the people at the gate now, hanging around the periphery waiting to take over from President Buhari in four years’ time".

Buhari’s Legacy Of Recessions By Fredrick Nwabufo

Fredrick Nwabufo ‘Why always Buhari?’ As it was in 1984 under General Buhari, so it is in 2016 and 2020 under President Buhari? Is it by the unfortunate hands of kismet that recession hits Nigeria every time Buhari takes charge of the country’s affairs? If the recession of the 80s under Buhari was a conspiracy by economic and political factors, to what do we attribute that of his first coming as a civilian President — and now in his second coming? Why does pestilence scourge the land, hunger ravage the population and lives lost malevolently when Buhari presides over the country? Why always Buhari? Buhari’s undoing is his wonted predilection for hierarchising ethnicity, religion and loyalty above competence. Since 1999, no President has obtrusively shown a more nepotistic aspect than Buhari. It is unarguable that the President arrays the most competence-challenged cabinet ever in the chronicle of governance in Nigeria. Yes, a recession cabinet. Fredrick Nwabufo Here is a cabin...
