Youths give police 24 hours to arrest Sokoto PDP chairman over alleged threat of violence

- Concerned Sokoto State Youths have called for the immediate arrest of the state chairman of the PDP

- The youths group made the call in respect to the statement attributed to the PDP chairman, inciting violence ahead of the governorship election

- The state PDP has, however, reacted saying its chairman was mischievously misinterpreted

Some youths in Sokoto state under the auspices of Concerned Sokoto State Youths have called for the immediate arrest of the state chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over alleged threat of violence ahead of the governorship election in the state.

The PDP chairman allegedly directed his party’s supporters to instantly kill any permanent secretary or director in the state civil service trying to manipulate result in favour of the opposition party in the state.

However, addressing a press conference on Tuesday, March 5, the youth said the alleged remark is not only a threat to the peaceful coexistence of our people but a total declaration of war by desperate politicians, Daily Trust reports.

The chairman of the youth group, Mustapha Ibrahim, said: “Let it be noted that, the PDP Chairman is being used to stoke breach of peace and create violent crisis that may result into bloodletting in various parts of the state, if immediate action is not taken by the relevant security agencies.

“It is in the light of these treasonable and inciting utterances by Alhaji Ibrahim Milgoma, that we demand that the state police command, should within the next 24 hours, order the arrest and commence immediate trial of the PDP chairman.”

Ibrahim called on the people of the state to come out en masse and exercise their civic rights on Saturday, March 9 without any fear.

The leading opposition party in the state, the All Progressives Congress (APC), has also called for the arrest of the PDP chairman, adding that the arrest would serve as a deterrent to other politicians trying to cause violence during the governorship election in the state.

However, reacting to the development, the PDP said it had never promoted or engaged in violence all through the campaigns.

“Our attention has been drawn to the contents of a press conference by the All Progressives Congress in which the APC mischievously misinterpreted the call by our chairman on voters to be vigilant against all rigging and disruptive acts in the upcoming governorship and State Assembly elections,” a statement signed by the chairman of the party, Milgoma said.

Buhari’s Legacy Of Recessions By Fredrick Nwabufo

Fredrick Nwabufo ‘Why always Buhari?’ As it was in 1984 under General Buhari, so it is in 2016 and 2020 under President Buhari? Is it by the unfortunate hands of kismet that recession hits Nigeria every time Buhari takes charge of the country’s affairs? If the recession of the 80s under Buhari was a conspiracy by economic and political factors, to what do we attribute that of his first coming as a civilian President — and now in his second coming? Why does pestilence scourge the land, hunger ravage the population and lives lost malevolently when Buhari presides over the country? Why always Buhari? Buhari’s undoing is his wonted predilection for hierarchising ethnicity, religion and loyalty above competence. Since 1999, no President has obtrusively shown a more nepotistic aspect than Buhari. It is unarguable that the President arrays the most competence-challenged cabinet ever in the chronicle of governance in Nigeria. Yes, a recession cabinet. Fredrick Nwabufo Here is a cabin...
