According to Premium Times, the national publicity secretary of the party, Lanre Issa-Onilu, speaking in Abuja on Wednesday, said: “Though the APC does not have governorship candidate in Rivers, the people of the state were very important to the party.

“Whatever has happened in Rivers, and whatever Rotimi Amaechi has done, is completely normal and acceptable to this party.”

“If we have the opportunity of working with a party that will abide by our principles, it is within our right to work with such a party to ensure that we free the people of Rivers from hardship.”

Recall that Legit.ng reported that an audio recording which featured Amaechi, allegedly criticising President Muhammadu Buhari, was causing disquiet in the APC. Leaders of the party had been having discussions about the recording, since it was released.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the national working committee (NWC) of the APC had suspended Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun state and his counterpart, Rochas Okorocha of Imo state from the party.
