- The Abia state government has reacted to reports of deplorable state of schools by residents in the state

- The state government said Governor Okezie Ikpeazu is doing all it takes to ensure development get to all crannies of Abia

- According to Jude Ndukwe, the senior special assistant to the governor on media, 359 new classroom blocks have been constructed in Abia by the Governor Ikpeazu-led administration

Following a recent report on the deplorable state of schools in Osisisoma Ngwa North constituency, the Abia state government has said that the present administration in the state led by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu is doing all it takes to ensure development get to all crannies of Abia.

The state government also said that the education sector in Abia has been receiving 'never imagined' attention from the Governor since he assumed office on May 29, 2015.

Speaking to Legit.ng on the state of the schools in the state after a worried resident lamented that the schools have suffered a long-overdue neglect, the senior special assistant to the governor on media, Jude Ndukwe, said the continued improvement of the education sector in the state is a task which Governor Ikpeazu is determined to accomplish before leaving office.

Ndukwe said the education sector in Abia state has been receiving such attention that the state has 359 new classroom blocks constructed, 70 of them reconstructed while new model schools in the three senatorial districts of the state were completed with fenced environments to guarantee security.

He said most of these schools have been equipped with quality locally produced furniture, libraries, laboratories and other modern learning facilities.

Ndukwe said: "Abia state is also the only state throughout the federation where all her pupils from Primary 1 - 6 are fed every school day."

He added that while the federal government feeds pupils of Primary 1 - 3 nationwide, Governor Ikpeazu ordered and ensured feeding Abia pupils from Primary 4 - 6 every school day.

"The above developments have seen school enrollment rate in the State rise from about 115,000 as at 2015 when the governor first came into office, to over 600,000 today," Ndukwe said.

"Also, the deliberate investments of the governor in education, has been yielding even more results as Abia has remained the best state in WASCE for four consecutive years running: 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and still counting," he said.

He said that while Governor Ikpeazu has never claimed to have finished doing everything that needs to be done in the education sector as in others, he is still in the business of developing Abia schools to the best standards.

Informing Legit.ng that he had to visit these schools after the story broke out, Ndukwe said: "That the development hasn't got to any particular school yet, doesn't mean it won't get there. It's one step at a time as Abia has enormous challenges in different sectors competing for available lean resources."

"The continued improvement of the education sector in Abia State is a task which Governor Okezie Ikpeazu is determined to accomplish before long," he added.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that in registration of her anger, a resident of Abia has lamented the deplorable condition of some of the government-owned schools in the state.

Expressing her displeasure to Legit.ng on the terrible condition of government schools in Osisisoma Ngwa North constituency, the worried resident lamented that the schools have suffered a long-overdue neglect, charging on the stakeholders in the state to give education its deserved priority.

She said: "The rotten state of the government schools in my constituency has given given me serious concern."

NLNG Signs Letter Of Intent On Delayed Gas Expansion Project

The Nigerian Natural Liquefied Gas LTD has signed a letter of intent for the engineering, procurement and construction of its long held up Train Seven project.
