We are not under pressure to congratulate Buhari on election victory - CAN

Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) said it remained apolitical and would congratulate and rejoice with whoever wins the presidential election in the country.

Daily Trust reports that CAN made this known on Thursday, March 28, while denying being under pressure to congratulate President Buhari on his re-election.

The association president, Samson Ayokunle, in a statement, by his media aide, Bayo Oladeji, said: ''It is a normal thing for CAN to rejoice and to congratulate whoever wins the presidential poll in the country because of its political neutrality.

''We have been doing this before. We did it in 2015 and we are wondering why it has to be different this year.”

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the Christian Association of Nigeria said it had not gone to Aso Rock to congratulate President Muhammadu Buhari on his re-election.

Christian body said it was waiting for the controversy surrounding the presidential election be resolved in court first before going to do so.

CAN claimed that it is under pressure to congratulate President Buhari and that the pressure has turned to subtly blackmail.

A source in CAN’s national executive body claimed the church is now being polarised. He said: “We have seen how they are polarising the church so that it cannot act as a body.

Buhari’s Legacy Of Recessions By Fredrick Nwabufo

Fredrick Nwabufo ‘Why always Buhari?’ As it was in 1984 under General Buhari, so it is in 2016 and 2020 under President Buhari? Is it by the unfortunate hands of kismet that recession hits Nigeria every time Buhari takes charge of the country’s affairs? If the recession of the 80s under Buhari was a conspiracy by economic and political factors, to what do we attribute that of his first coming as a civilian President — and now in his second coming? Why does pestilence scourge the land, hunger ravage the population and lives lost malevolently when Buhari presides over the country? Why always Buhari? Buhari’s undoing is his wonted predilection for hierarchising ethnicity, religion and loyalty above competence. Since 1999, no President has obtrusively shown a more nepotistic aspect than Buhari. It is unarguable that the President arrays the most competence-challenged cabinet ever in the chronicle of governance in Nigeria. Yes, a recession cabinet. Fredrick Nwabufo Here is a cabin...
