Tribunal: I am confident justice will be done - Atiku tells southern, middle belt leaders

- The PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, met with members of the Southern and Middle Belt Elders Forum

- Atiku said the purpose of the meeting was to solicit the support of the forum as he seeks redress in court over the 2019 presidential election result

- The PDP presidential candidate expressed confidence that the court will do justice to his case

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, had a closed-door meeting with members of the Southern and Middle Belt Elders Forum on Wednesday, March 20, urging them to support him as he seeks redress in court over the results of the presidential election.

Channels TV reports that the meeting took place at the home of the elder statesman, Chief Edwin Clark, in Abuja.

Addressing members of the forum, Atiku said he was confident that justice will be served and therefore, asked them not to despair. He also reiterated his commitment to restructuring if the tribunal’s ruling favours him.

He said: “We have filed our petition before the Tribunal because we believe this is a mandate that has been stolen from the Nigerian people and I believe that the court will do justice to this case. We still have confidence in our courts of law and we believe justice will be done.”

In his reaction, the chairman of the forum, Chief Edwin Clark, said that restructuring is the only guarantee for Nigeria’s unity and the forum will continue to support the promoter of restructuring.

“We will continue to be with the promoter of the restructuring of Nigeria. We want restructuring. No restructuring, it will be difficult to have Nigeria,” he said.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Atiku released what he claimed to be the authentic presidential election result gotten from the server of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) server.

In his petition, Atiku claimed he won the presidential election to defeat President Muhammadu Buhari who was declared winner by the electoral body.

Atiku said he scored 18,356,732 votes to defeat Buhari whom he claimed scored 16,741,430 votes.
