- Hollywood actor, Johnny Depp, has sued his former wife Amber Heard for allegedly defaming him

- The Pirates of the Caribbean star has sued his ex-wife to the tune of $50 million (N17,975,000,000)

- The actress had previously claimed that Depp was physically abusive to her and that dented his image in the film industry with many people boycotting the actor

Former Hollywood sweethearts Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s relationship might have been over a long time ago but their marriage is still a point of focus.

Recall that Amber had claimed that Depp was physically abusive to her during their marriage and this led to many people in the film industry boycotting the actor.

Johnny Depp has now sued his former wife for $50 million (N17,975,000,000) for defaming his character with claims of abuse while they were married. The actor claims that Heard defamed his character in the opinion piece she wrote in the Washington Post in December 2018.

Even though Depp was not named in the publication a number of people felt it was about him seeing as they were married.

According to NBC News, the lawsuit claims that the central point of the publication was that Heard suffered domestic violence and Depp was the perpetrator of the act.

However Heard’s lawyer has retorted that the actor’s lawsuit is frivolous and that he is only trying to silence his ex-wife.

The attorney, Eric M. George said: “She will not be silenced. Mr. Depp’s actions prove he is unable to accept the truth of his ongoing abusive behavior," George said in a statement. "But while he appears hell-bent on achieving self destruction, we will prevail in defeating this groundless lawsuit and ending the continued vile harassment of my client by Mr. Depp and his legal team.”

The former couple had gotten married in February 2015 but their divorce was finalised in 2017.
