A source privy to the development claimed the PDP was working on the template it used in 2015 that saw Bukola Saraki emerge as Senate president and Ike Ekweremadu of the PDP emerge as his deputy.

It was reported that 35 senators-elect gathered at the Maitama residence of Saraki where they resolved to influence the leadership of the Senate and work with any APC senator willing to accommodate it caucus.

The caucus is reportedly plotting to secure the deputy Senate position and according to the Source, the plan A is to first sponsor a PDP senator for the position of Senate president in the event that two or more APC lawmakers vie for the position.

The plan B if the first one fails is to support a APC senator from Gombe whom they believe could help them get the deputy Senate presidency position.

The group’s Planc C if the first two fails is to support an APC senator from Yobe state, who they believed would not act to adversely affect the group’s interests.

They Saraki group also resolved not to allow “the duo from Nasarawa and Borno State to step in the saddle as Senate president” as they are “dubbed as chronic loyalists of Buhari.”

The group’s convener, Malam Ibrahim Usman, made the appeal in a statement sent to journalists on Sunday, March 24.

Usman said Lawan's emergence would ensure a united and vibrant senate ready to face the onerous legislative works ahead.
