From April 2019, people found engaged in gay practice and adultery will start finding death sentence by stoning hang around their necks as Brunei plans to incorporate full strict Shariah law into its penal code.

CNN reports that the new strict new laws, which were announced in 2014, have been rolled out gradually with the latest phase of implementation quietly announced on the Brunei attorney general's website on December 29, 2018.

Announcing the new development, Sultan of Brunei, Hassanal Bolkia, vowed that his government will not leave stones unturned in ensuring that the new laws stay.

He said: "This government does not expect other people to accept and agree with it, but that it would suffice if they just respect the nation in the same way that it also respects them."

Brunei is reportedly the first country to adopt the sharia law in the region, and the the new penal code has generated mixed with activists calling for the abolition of the strict corporal punishments.

Rachel Chhoa-Howard, Brunei researcher at Amnesty International, in a statement, called for the halt to the implementation of the law.

He further called the international community to ''urgently condemn'' it.

He said: ''Brunei must immediately halt its plans to implement these vicious punishments, and revise its Penal Code in compliance with its human rights obligations.

''The international community must urgently condemn Brunei's move to put these cruel penalties into practice."

Brunei, a tiny, oil-rich kingdom of just over 450,000 people, is located on the island of Borneo, close to moderate Islamic nations of Indonesia and Malaysia.

Over the recent time, the nation has dragged itself to global condemnation for its obnoxious conservativeness when it banned the sales and consumption of alcohol.

Buhari’s Legacy Of Recessions By Fredrick Nwabufo

Fredrick Nwabufo ‘Why always Buhari?’ As it was in 1984 under General Buhari, so it is in 2016 and 2020 under President Buhari? Is it by the unfortunate hands of kismet that recession hits Nigeria every time Buhari takes charge of the country’s affairs? If the recession of the 80s under Buhari was a conspiracy by economic and political factors, to what do we attribute that of his first coming as a civilian President — and now in his second coming? Why does pestilence scourge the land, hunger ravage the population and lives lost malevolently when Buhari presides over the country? Why always Buhari? Buhari’s undoing is his wonted predilection for hierarchising ethnicity, religion and loyalty above competence. Since 1999, no President has obtrusively shown a more nepotistic aspect than Buhari. It is unarguable that the President arrays the most competence-challenged cabinet ever in the chronicle of governance in Nigeria. Yes, a recession cabinet. Fredrick Nwabufo Here is a cabin...
