Lionel Messi's goal against Getafe in the semifinals of the Copa del Rey 2006/07 season has been voted by fans as the best goal so far in the history of Spanish champions Barcelona.

More than 500,000 votes were cast in the past three months which helped the official in charge to know the goal that made the fans happy.

And after 60 eliminatory rounds, four goals of which three from Lionel Messi and one from Sergi Roberto qualified for the final stage during the past week.

Out of the four goals that made it to the final stage, Lionel Messi's goal against Getafe received 45% of the total votes.

Sergi Roberto's goal against PSG received 11% and in the final vote users from more than 160 countries participated according to the information by Barcelona.

Lionel Messi has been superb this season for Barcelona in all competitions and he is expected to face Manchester United in the quarterfinal of the 2018/19 Champions League.

Barcelona are still topping the Spanish La Liga standings with 66 points after 28 games played this season.

Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi was branded as an average player in an unusual rant by Canadian football pundit Sid Seixeiro.

Sid Seixeiro claimed that the Argentina international was propped up by Xavi, Iniesta and David Villa at Barcelona stressing that he is now missing the impact of these three stars at the club.

Lionel Messi is considered by many to be the greatest football star of all time considering what he achieved since he began his career with Barcelona.
